Off Hook!
im planning to get a mid- range gaming pc
[
i decided to get a core i5 proccy as i think its more VFM.
and i dont wish to upgrade my pc for at least 5-6 yrs

then i came across amd's cheaper quad-core counter part.........
it lacks l3 cache...but there is not much difference of fps in the benchmarks
provided by various tech sites

and its almost half the price or the i5 *www.techenclave.com/images/smilies/happy19.gif

should i go for the i5 or the athlon..........*www.techenclave.com/images/smilies/confused1.gif
and my requirement is only gaming no video editing kinds of stuff

how much change in fps would i get for these two systems with a good gfx dx11 card like HD5770 or 58xx series

coz i could save the extra 6k in getting a good gfx card

If u don't wanna upgrade ur system for that much of time, then Core i5 is the way to go. Although the price difference is huge but so the performance difference is.

And in gaming Core i5 is way ahead of Athlon II 620. So if u wanna a rig for a very long time, close ur eyes and buy the i5 rig.

Yeah, for a future proof rig, i5 is good, but i doubt if it will last 5-6 years. 2-3 is more like it.

thanks man i think core i5 is the way to go

@krow
i managed a intel p4 with just 256mb ram and the biggest part NO GRAPHICS CARD
and used it for playing nfs most wanted, ut2004, sims2 @10-15fps
for last 5 yrs ;-)

i5 + HD5770 will surely last for 5yrs at least for me

Get the 5850 if you can. It will last you much longer. 5770 is a grossly overpriced card, which fails to beat even the 4890 and competes with the even older 4870.

hi guys

Even i want a good card and get rid of my 8600gt.When fermi is gonna be launched ? i'm tired waitin. Is there a probability of a price drop in current crop of ati cards. The 5770 is a good buy if priced below 9k.

What should i do?
Should i wait more:???:

Fermi will not be available to you before Feb end minimum. Its your choice. Either get the 5850 or wait if you want the newest cards. 5770/5750 are a waste of money. Better options are 4890/GTX275.

I have a corsair vx450 and i doubt it will power the 4890 or gtx275.The newer 40nm cards consume less power but are too expensive right now.Is a price drop imminent or its after fermi release?

I don't think there will be any drop in the prices of 40nm cards until Fermi launches and the shortage of 40nm wafers is resolved. Long time buddy.
