Well, you can configure Winamp to play RM files, is you have Real Alternative installed...just head onto Preferences and then configure the DirectSound Input filter and append the .RM;.RAM extention to the list and voilaaa! now, you can play real media from within Winamp, however, be warned Winamp will crash if you try to play Real Video.....

an addition to what bhandari said ...
There is plugin for winamp called Tara Audio Plugin. It uses Real's engine to play real audio/video files.
You'll need Real Player installed in your comp.
No crashes whatsoever

There are loads of plugins available for winamp.
Surely there must be a plugin for converting real media files to mpg or avi etc format.
