Hi guys long time coming to this forum been busy with exams .. I want to purchase a laptop for 60~65k only for gaming . Also sorry to mods as it seems there are a few threads like this but i did not want to bump into them and i need some clarifications.

My basic requirements will be :
1. gaming ( battlefield bad company 2 , cod mw 3 etc @ 1280x 720 res , medium gfx)
2. movies ( full HD)
3. large storage preferably 500~750 gb.

I was browsing through many available laptops but i have a few queries

1. shortlisted the hp dv6 6165tx . but apparently its been discontinued by hp .
2. apparently the 5xx nvidia mobile gpus have some optimus issues. which does not allow to switch entirely to dedicated gfx (most lappys coming with nvidia gfx)
3. cant find a laptop with a good ati gfx like 6770 , 6790 etc..

I hope people who have some experience on this issue can enlighten me  also i would like to add i want the laptop to be future proof for 2~3 years and play all games over 30FPS min . I dont have a problem even if they run at 31FPS but 30 FPS is must.

Battery life will not be an issue as i will be using laptop as desktop replacement. And even size and weight
thanks regards

also when i go to hp india site , i get this *ssl.www8.hp.com/in/en/pdf/HP-Pavilion-dv6_tcm_188_1154220.pdf ..... one config is available with ati 7690m xt gpu... but no model in india is turning up in search result :/

Hi,

Even am buying a laptop for the same price range and after lots of research tried to settle for HP DV6-6121TX.Sadly that model has been discontinued, but there are many sites which still sells 6121tx. Letsbuy.com has quoted 54k, Flipkart at 56k. But 6165TX hasn't been discontinued by HP. Its still running. The only Difference btw both are 6165TX has 10% faster processor at 2.2Ghz, and 110 HDD extra compared to 6121TX. Rest all the specs are the same.

I went thru lots of videos and sites and found that HD6770M is only card which can run almost all the games at Medium-HIgh settings at affordable price.

Asus N55SF has GT 555M. Some games GT555 performs better and in some other HD6770M performs better. You can see the comparison here AMD Radeon HD 6770M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

But at the same time N55SF is quoted at 72k in flipkart.

So make your decision :)

Even AMD has dynamic switching graphics and it is as problematic as nVidia Optimus.

But with HP dv6-61xx series laptops, what you can do is....set the mode to "Fixed" from the BIOS. This will ensure that the system only runs on HD 6770M i.e. Dynamic Switching gets disabled.

yea but will it be better to wait a few months and opt for a better notebook, something like the msi gt683 or get a notebook like msi ge620dx ?

and theres the second problem . screen is not full HD. so whats the point of shelling out so much ?

but the msi ge620 dx is quoted at 52k . it has nvidia GT555m

You can surely wait if you are not urgent. Obviously there will be better laptops with time and you can go for it. And abt MSI are there service centers in the place you live ??
But the Indian version comes with i5 processor and 1366 x 768 resolution!! :)

I suggest wait, ultrabooks announcements may lower prices of normal laptops, plus if you wait you may get a laptop with latest gen Ivy-bridge, AMD-7000 series GPU's.

Coz 6770m is the best gpu out there.
Will buy around march april from whats best available.
But why the **** hp does so,is there problem with models so they discontinue??? Dell still sells n5110.
Earlier 6017tx was stopped costing only 48k n had 6770m. :(

60k is a sort of middle ground figure, I mean you wont get substantially upgraded from what a 47k laptop will provide...my suggestion:

Buy a Asus K Series K53SV-SX521D Laptop for 47k, immediately upgrade its HDD to a 7200rpm one and its going to be bliss Option 2: Buy the dell xps 15 with a full HD screen, backlit keyboard & by default it has a 7200rpm drive rest config rem same with the Asus one. The question you should decide upon: Is shelling out around 12k extra for the Dell worth it? :D

Cheers!

Get certain things straight here.
Firstly with a budget of 60k,your best bet will be the dv6.
But other than the gpu, cpu, everything is crap about this laptop.
Bad screen, bad trackpad, bad keyboard, bad build quality, cheap and ugly looks, bad reputation, bad ASS and the list goes on.

Second option can be xps15.
But it has weaker gpu, some heating problems and the standard screen is piss poor just like dv6.
Points in favour, good speakers(seriously good),relatively better looking and after sales service and the option to upgrade the screen to something really good.

Do not know about that particular Asus one .
Generally K series is much better than X series, but the infamous keyboard flex issues were there even in 2010 models.

Point of this post is,
Do not expect much from a 60-70k gaming laptop.
IMO no point spending so much for a laptop that too for gaming.

Buy some decent laptop with intel hd gfx for regular work and invest in consoles or desktop gaming.
I may sound old fashioned but that is the way it is!
