Changing Drive Icons. How?

I downloaded some Icon Packs from "VistaIcons.com", they are all in both ".ico &.png" formats.



I want to change the Icon of the Hard Drive, DVD Drive,...

Now how do i Install/apply the Icons.

In regedit goto:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Create a new key DriveIcons under it!

Now u can create keys for different drives and then set their icons.

for example:

To set icon of C: drive, create c key under DriveIcons key and create another key DefaultIcon under c key. So the key will be:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\ c\DefaultIcon

and set its Default value to the path of the .ico file

Do same for other drives!

Mr. Vista, the KEY "Drive Icons" is already there, i dont know how/when it got created. (i'm the only person to do the Registry level tweaking/setup in my PC).

i created the key ==>"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\K\DefaultIcon"

btw, i tried it, (check pic.), even after i put the path, the Drive Icon does not change, now it shows the "unknown file" icon.
i double checked the path, but still no result.

do i have to include the Drive name too, my K: drive name is "SOFTWARE"
i'm using the "TuneUp Utilities 06 Registry Editor".

Guess what, u forgot to put the extension of the file!

U can only use .ico files in this hack, so if the file is .ico then add .ico at last of the path!

e.g.,

K:\PC Tools\Themes for Desktop\Icons Pack\Icons\ICO\Hardware\Disque Amovible.ico

For the icons, just search DeviantArt and u'll get lots of icon packs
