Hello friends,

I recently noticed that my computer is not producing any sound whenever I try playing any sort of .mid files .Earlier the same files used to play without any trouble, but now any player I use to play those files, the player plays it like before with the time counter going on smoothly, but it remains silent.
I have used Media player, Winamp,Real Player with the same result.
Does anyone of you have any idea what has gone wrong all of a sudden ?
I haven't changed anything in my system recently...

Please help..

Does your System play MP3 and other music files like WAV properly?
So say that your PC was playing MIDI files properly before, but not now.
Check whether your Audio drivers are not corrupted. There is also a possiblity
that your PC is infected with a virus that's corrupting the audio drivers.

Thanks to you all.
I sorted it out by reinstalling my audio device.
It's okay now, but no idea why it happened at all !

i have same problem
» i cant hear any midi files... even windows media player cant play the .mid files
» i tried the DirectX Diagnostic tool (dxdiag.exe) and in the music page...
» i clicked the 'Test DirectMusic' button but i $cant$ hear any music play !!
» it shows the followinf error "No General MIDI DLS file was specified in the registry"
» i googled it and i read in microsoft website that gm16.dls file is required.
» I downloaded it and saved it to system32\drivers but still i cant play it.. i guess registry entry is also missing.
» and lastly i uninstalled my audio devices and reinstalled it but to no avail.

PLEASE CAN ANYBODY ASSIST ME?
i urgently want to play some midi files.
