Can U help me in configuring this small awkward problem?

hi,

Well from this morning i have been formatting my hard disk's first partition C: again & again to install my windows properly but i encountered a few very new problems :
1: my formatting stops at 39% & to raise it up by just 1% i mean till 40% it takes ard 5 minutes ( hell lot of time ) ... Tell me whether i need to replace my hard disk ...????

2: now my institute's website isn't opening in internet explorer .. although i have configured it correctly ... Is there some problem with my installation of Windows XP ??


3: my Yahoo! messenger isn't working on No Proxies option ...& on every other option else than this it works indefinitely SLOW!!! ....... Do tell is this a windows problem & believe me reinstalling messenger wont help me ever ..i have tried it??

4: Last but not the least after formatting my hard disk same partiotion for more than 7 times my LAN card is permanently detected ...as with LAN speed of 10 Mbps ..instead of 100 Mbps .. & it doesn't matter whether i connect my LAN cable or not it always says the same ... LAN speed connected 10 Mbps ..i mean it is always connected .... It's an RTL8139 chipset ...which in general has it's driver with windows itself it need not to be installed again & again .....

Tell me people wat's the problem......my hard disk.............. my installation or.................. it's simply me ..i'm feeling sick in my mind now!!

how did you format your C drive ? did you just right click and select format? it aint gonna happen like that.If you want to format your drive when XP is installed do this

0. Set your BIOS to boot to the CD-Rom
1. Start Computer booting from CD
2. Choose Recovery Console (R)
3. At the dos prompt type: "format C:" (without the quotes)
4. If it asks for the "Administrator Pass Word", Type it in if you have one or just hit Enter to continue.
5. Commands that you can use, format (drive)/ Q (quick) FS/ (File system fat/ntsf)

i dunno about your 2,3,4 questions. i guess you just dont have an active connection.

Well i'm talking about the formatting done during the installation of Windows XP .... by the way all my problems r over now but still i would like to know wat is the reason for such behaviour of my OS?

Well according to me it was just an untidy installation of WindowsXP but i did it ard 8 or more number of times .... Y didn't it happened in 1st installation tell me this now!! wat is a clean installation of ne OS ( especially regarding windows) ?????

I seriously think you shud check your harddisk ..
in command promt .. type "chkdsk /r"
it may ask for scan on restart .. say yes.
I wud also suggest u to scan your disk using some 3rd party disk scanners.
Its possible that disk is corrupted at that place.

possible due to proxy configurations
do u use a proxy to connect to internet ..
if yes .. then try to open your institute website in "automatically detect settings" mode without proxy ..
see if this helps

may your institute has a firewall installed ..
or may be port 5000 ( i think ! ) is blocked by your institute ..
this port is used by yahoo messenger to connect to its servers ..
if you select "firewall with no proxy" option .. then it tries to connect using port 80

there is a notch in most 100Mbps lan cards which toggles between 100Mbps and 10Mbps mode ..
see if its kept in 10Mbps mode!!
im not an expert in this field .. so cant say where that notch is !!!!

I had a spell of 2 months in which i formatted my comp 10-12 times due to various problems ...
i had been through this kinda patch too .. peace maro

Well i think i need to tell ya tht .... Mr. Alib_i surely i'll be checking my hard disk.. ....

2: yes! we use proxy but it is working fine now with the same settiungs tht i did ...& for ur information automatically ..detect.. option never works well in proxies... thanks! for advice newayss... & internet was working fine but my intranet was troubling me ..really this all SUCKS!!!

3: Well now my messenger is woking fine on no proxies option ... & as such we have just blocked torrent ports else nothing!! we have also some port tht is used by MSN messenger ...

but there is sth i need to tell ya & tht is these two problems i mean the intranet & messenger No proxies one .... happens together ... & it's a kind of estimation to me tht whether my installation is clean or not!! if they work well it's a green card else always red!! & day before yesterday it was always red!! sucked me all.... do tell me if U please to ... wat is this clean installation F***????

4: & yes! tht LAN problem is over now & again the solutio with a reinstallation ...god help us wat the f*** is this ...

& abt patience i have patience man!! but tht day i really needed my system to work ..& this great dabba wasn't working STUPID!! sach mein at times this dabba naa gives me a hell lot of problems!

But yeah! i'm learning & i'm interested in knowing abt this ..aur haan if U know some links i mean some very gud links abt registry studies can u plzz forward them to me!!
& plzz reply for my questions too ..??

seems like another problematic installation ..

anyways .. i guess you should also try using another installation CD ..
may be the problem lies there

and about torrent ports being blocked..

Now my frd(may be we can call each other with this lovely gesture) ...we R moving into sth like not-so-sure probable solutions!! I dunt like this stuff .. We belong to a field in which probability doesn't hold a place ..& even if it holds it's just to a satisfactory level ..just the very 0ptimal required for it ... Well tht was some little literature stuff from me he he!!! 8) cool naa!!!

NEWAYZZ coming back to point man! i dunt feel like there is some problem with cd ..bcz it happens quite often whenever i format my HDD .... so something else is there ..dunno wat is it ... may be U r right or may be wrong tht's wat i dunt want....... i need a solution or atleast an enough self-explanatory response from people like U ...

Just being precise this is Ankit........ inspite of yehmeriidhain U can use this ... & i was asking for some stuff to learn abt registry in Windows XP which i'm using....i can do some things with it but i dunt understand them all & i damn wanna know them ...

Do U have ne link or neone going through this thread can give me some gud links!!
