My son is in 4th standard and is finding hard to remember table from 16 to 30. My idea is it will be better to remember such things, when u have audio/visual effect. hence, i am planning to make tables starting from 2 to 30. and even topics of other subjects also. now the problem ;

1) should i make it in ppt or swf files ?

2) Can any of them will be converted to Movie using any freeware ?

3) can those converted movies will be played on normal DVD player connected to ur TV ?

any help is appreciated.

use ppt or flash/swf your wish.

Just google for "flash to video" or "powerpoint to video" use the softs and convert ur files to videos(mpeg) , then burn these files as a video cd.

If you burn it as video cd , it can be viewed on dvd/cd players

or u can do one more thing its quite cumbersome...
make suitable slides if tables in powerpoint...
play the slides as SLIDE SHOW.
capture the screen the video will be saved.
use video editing softwares widely avail today to add ur voice ,effects etc
burn to a CD / DVD.
thats all

how ? with webcam or any such hardware ? i don't have any ?

With screen capturing software you can capture full screen, part of screen, any active window etc. There is a software called techsmith's camtasia studio and snagit. use both these software to make professional quality training material. It doesn't require any special hardware.

use power point, its lot easier and cost efective but,it won't make effective learning.just give a shot at it.

My my . You say your son in 4th Standard is finding it hard knowing table from....gulp !!!!!!!!!! 16 to 20 ...errr not even 20 ...its suprisingly 30. And he is still in 4th.
Now whats your second problem another year. "My son is in 5th and he finds its difficult to cross 90% in advanced Mathematics."

Hey ...u r son is in 4th...Its Ok...Dont listen to others...he should know.. these tables...It'll be much useful to him and u know its results are hidden...I mean sometimes he would do calcs so fast that u would not even wonder that he would have done that becoz of tabls.....

also multiplication tabls are much useful when u want to calculate percentage...
I bet...u take a survey ur self....How many students(take in 12 th std) can find percentages orally in just few seconds...for eg. ask them...1) what is 85% of 1600 and
2) what is 10% of 1600..
even
3)What is the % of 50 out of 1600 etc...
Its an very easy task and very usefull in day to day life. And if ur son will know this I think it'll be great..

Also a simple ques...****How much time every day do u spend on ur PC. Reply in %...One who doesn't knows tables would think a while ..But its simple just calc total hours u spend on ur PC and divide it by 24(if u know its table.) even slight approx. would work if u take 25 instead and adjust in the result..We'll U would be understanding what i mean..Plz dont take it lightly.

U know in exams like..12th Board and Aieee and IITs every second is important and every calculation even the minute one taking time of miniseconds affect our results greatly...which decide our careers...Aakhir BOOND BOOND SE BANTA HAI SAAGAR

...I don't remember myself learning those tables ever in my school life....and I also don't remember myself feeling the need to learn those tables ever afterwards. (But surprisingly that didn't prevent me in getting 90+ in college maths), I wonder how the world (inside India, that is) evolved over this last 10 years or so!!!!!! May be in the coming decade we will (unfortunately) see 3rd or 4th graders (sadly) trying to learn the tables from 91 to 99 !!!!!! But which really concerns me is that parents like yourself who worry this much about your 9 year old kid are growing fast in number and may be in coming days (when I will perhaps become a parent too) people like us will truely become a minority.

AFA tables r concerned....learn to multiply....and u'll learn the tables ;)

Create a flash movie (with buttons so that it provides interactivity) and then convert it to .avi if u wish(not a good idea as no interactivity will be left). As for the conversion, google for .swf to .avi conversion tools. BTW, digit did give one such tool a few months back...maybe december or january.(it was .ppt to .avi conversion tool)
