Can I install Microsoft Windows XP on USB HDD

    Hi !

    I've a 10 GB USB HDD & want to install Windows XP on it. Can I use it as portable system. OR can I boot computer from that USB HDD?

    Plz comment or Reply.

    Yes u can install xp on USB Hdd but u will have to make sure that ur mobo supports booting from the USB port..

    yeah..u shud have no probs....i'm running vista beta2 on my external usb HDD...so i'm guessing XP should do fine too...

    Hey!

    I tried 2 install XP on that HDD. It copies Setup files. But when next time it Boots, It displayes Blue Screen & tell to remove any new h/w installed & reboot.

    What Can I do NOW?

    Go to the BIOS and change the 1st boot device to USB or 'Other Device'

    That is no Problem !!!!

    XP is NOT istalled yet on USB HDD.

    k.. then ur mobo dosnt support it...

    well u can install xp on ur usb hdd but if u use it for personal use only and on same comp , this is microsoft legal policy !

    Does ur mobo support booting from the USB port if yes then,go to the BIOS and enable that....If not then try updating ur BIOS...
