Can a mobile be affected by virus ?

Use some free antivirus for your phone. I use avast, it has anti-theft features too + call/sms blocker. There are many other options too

In fact, Android has the highest growth rate in malware business. It's in all range - right from stealing your contacts/photos to buying apps without your consent.

Maybe, its offtopic. But i read that some antivirus companies invent/code for new viruses in order to thrive its market share (thereby providing solutions to the viruses)

^^pure rumor just like those stupid 9/11 & illuminati conspiracy theories.it is common sense that any platform which is widely used for financial transactions will be targeted by malware writers because of profits & in recent times smartphone is that platform.

Exactly. This is the reason no one designed a malware for s40 or no new malwares are being discovered for s60.

@OP: yeah, it can.. bad guys are developing viruses for android platform now since it has similar customer base like windows.. even apple's mac os is not free of virus...only because of popularity of windows, mac os wasn't that much affected.
so yes, android is vulnerable.... an antivirus would use up resources, so I would recommend installing on a dual core processor powered android phone & atleast 768mb ram.
