Hi TDF H/W Gurus!!!

I am planning to assemble my first DESKTOP PC within the next few weeks.
I live in Mumbai,so I got access to LAMMY ROAD,just need some help to buy the right ones.

THANKS.

DETAILS :

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run?
Ans:

Multi-tasking+Futureproofing (3yrs - no upgrades would be necessary)

Dual-OS if required (Ubuntu and Windows 7 Ultimate/Windows 8 later).
Ebook reading and surfing the internet (20 tabs in 3 browsers at the same time)
Downloading movies,tv shows from the internet.Playing Movies (HD).Data transfers - USB 3.0 a MUST!(20gb a day).
I am a Computer Engineering Student,so....
Coding - HTML,JAVA,CSS,PHP.
Softwares : Adobe Photoshop.
File Conversion like AVI to MP4,MKV to AVI.

Not a big gamer though it should be able to handle avg games like Caesar 3,Counterstrike and GTA IV.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:
40k (+5 if its really worth it!)

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:
Yeah,if required, please suggest if I should.(Only if useful for applications)

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:Windows 7 - 64-bit,Ubuntu.Want to be ready for WIN 8 as well.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:500GB+.Already having an internal Seagate SATA 5400PM + External 1TB HDD USB 3.0.Nothing extra required.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:
I already have one but please suggest one outside of the 40k budget.
Should be 21+ inches. For HD Movies.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:

Internal Hard-Drive 500GB
DVD/CD writer.
Keyboard,Mouse.
Graphics card NOT REQUIRED right now.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:
Within Sept first week.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:
By me with some help from my uncle who has done this before.
Also have 2-3 people who have done this before and are ready to help.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:
Mumbai.Buying locally.
Can buy online as well for smaller components like RAM.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:

What I exactly need?

Basically I need a motherboard (minimum 2 USB 3.0 ports a MUST,more the better) and a good processor to go with it.

Need a quality CPU+mobo+PSU+RAM+Case/Cabinet.
For MOBO please mention MUST HAVE FEATURES and its uses in the future.

My Current Processor Choice is : i5 3570K @ 15.5K,is it too much? I chose it since it has Intel HD 4000 and so i won't need a GFX card.

Please suggest the latest processors which work great ie. that are tested since it needs to be future-proof,if cost is more and if its worth it for my use, please mention that as well.

Other Questions I have...

1) For PSU,how can I decide the wattage rating?
2) For RAM should i go for 1600 MHz since it will be faster?
3) How much difference in the clock frequency is actually significant? For eg,what would be the difference of performance for file conversion is seconds for processors with a diff of 300MHz with same components.
4) I want the PC to start in less than 30-40 seconds in the beginning (less apps),for this which component would matter the most?

If there's anything else I should add, please mention that as well.

THANKS A LOT!!!

Here is my suggestion:-

AMD FX 8120 8 Core @ 9.7K
Asus M5A88M AM3+ Motherboard @ 5.4K
G-skill RipjawX 1600 MHz 4GB X 2 DDR3 @ K
NZXT Source 210 Elite @ 2.6K
AOC i2251Fwe 22" IPS Panel LED Display @ 8.3K
Corsair CX600 V2 80+ PSU @ 4K

Now I have suggested you a cheaper Motherboard and a 970 or 990X/990FX based motherboard would have been a better choice. But none of the 9XX chipset comes with IGP and you have to get a GPU for it. If you can get a cheap GPU for temporary use then get the following: Asus M5A97 @ 6.4K + GT 210 1GB DDR3 @ 2K

bad choice
even a hd 2000 igpu destroys a geforce 210
you should go for cilus rig only replace gt 210 with hd 6450/hd 5450 @ 2.5k

A guy is selling XFX HD 4850 for 3.5k (Brand New) in Ebay , It can easily match a 5670 in performance ...

no i dont recommend it
hd 4850 were powerhogs and arent even dx 11
you should try finding a hd 6770 /hd 5770 for used which should be cheap and outperforms the 4850 while consuming lesser power and having dx11

Intel i5 2500k - 12.5k or Intel i5 3570k - 15k
Asus P8Z77-VLX - 11k or Asrock Pro4 - 8.8k
G-skill RipjawX 1600 MHz 4GB X 2 DDR3 - 3K
Nzxt Source 210 elite - 2.5k
Corsair Force Series GT 120GB SSD - 8.2k or Corsair 120GB Force 3 -7k
seasonic s12ii 520w - 4k or corsair cx500v2 - 3.5k
Cooler master hyper 212 evo - 2.1k

Monitor - benq g2222hdl for 8k or the monitor suggested by cilus.

AMD FX 8150 - 12k
Asus M5A88M AM3+ Motherboard - 5.4K
G-skill RipjawX 1600 MHz 4GB X 2 DDR3 -3K
Nzxt Source 210 elite - 2.5k
Corsair Force Series GT 120GB SSD - 8.2k
seasonic s12ii 520w - 4k or corsair GS600 - 4.6k
Cooler master hyper 212 evo - 2.1k
Total=37.8k

Buy i5 3570k only if you want to utilise the faster quick sync and the faster iGPU of the ivy bridge processors.Otherwise performance difference between i5 2500k and i5 3570k is not much.
i5 3570k runs a lot hotter.
For video encoding/conversion it depends which application you are going to use.In handbrake fx8150 is faster than the i5 2500k not by much but i5 3570k would be faster than both.
But in general in x264 encoding the fx8150 is a bit faster than i5 3570k.
If the applications use quick sync for media encoding then intel config is much better as it is much faster. In photoshop the i5s would be faster.
For apps like photoshop a discrete gpu would be better. The fx8150 setup is cheaper. You can add a discrete gpu like hd7750 in the fx8150 setup.

@Cilius : Can you please suggest an Intel CPU-based rig.
I'll be going for Ripjaws or Corsair Vengeance - 1600Mhz
And Corsair CX600 + NZXT Source 210 elite looks great too! :)

@vkl : Thanks mate,it looks good.
What are the features I should watch out for in a mobo for i5 3rd gen?
For i5 3570k Do I need the cooler in the beginning itself?
Planning to overclock later only if required.
Also for future-proofing (assuming I'll add more RAM+1GFX card+1 HDD+1 Cooler minimum) later how much power supply would you suggest?
Is CX600 enough or should I got for something more than that?

Not planning to add a GFX card at the moment.
Also please suggest cases with 2 USB 3.0 and upto 4 USB 2.0 ports in the front.
How is Corsair Carbide series?

3rd gen i5 3570k had faster newer quick sync implementation and faster IGP.Rest it is a little faster than i5 2500k but runs hotter.i5 2500k overclocks better.

CX500V2 is more than enough.

Corsair carbide 400r is a very good cabinet.Good cable management, good airflow, huge rear end space.
It has 2 usb3.0 ports but no usb2.0 ports at the front.Same is the case with carbide500r.
Cooler Master CM 690 II Plus has 2 usb3.0ports and 2 usb2.0 ports at the front.
If number of front usb ports is not a problem then carbide400r is the cabinet to get.

Hey VKL
Thanks a lot, guess I'll be finally going with 3570k,any suggestions for the mobo?
Need a Z77 but not sure about the after sales support from ASUS,ASRock or Gigabyte.

Also would the Corsair Carbide300r be any different than C400r,size is small but would it still be spacious enough?

^^Go for carbide400R.It is better.Should be available for 4.5k or less.

For motherboard take Asus P8Z77-VLX at 11k.For power supply cx500v2 is good enough to handle upto hd7950 with your config.
Try getting seasonic s12ii 520w as it is more efficient and has better build quality.

I will try to find out if its available.
Not buying ASROCK/ASUS due to DOA/support problems.
Now only PSU choice left! :)

@myth : the reviews are too good @ Newegg
GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H LGA 1155 6usb3.0
GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H LGA 1155 ATX 4usb3.0

Any other suggestions in ASUS/Gigabyte
Corsair 600 Kaunsa wala?

The product might be good but its the after sales support in certain places in india that matters more.

Eg: While I was in bhubaneswar, I would prefer asus over any other brand, because it was the only one which had any (reliable) support/service center. Gigabyte, Msi, zotac, asrock, etc etc might have had better products, but it was a big headache to rma them from bhubaneswar. Hopefully things might have changed now.
At newegg, product reviews are good to follow, but it ends there. India after sales are, in most cases, drastically different.

Take whichever fits your budget. Corsair 600w PSUs.

@Phenomenal

GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H ATX is a good motherboard.Go ahead with it.It has lucid logix virtu support.
As you are going to use quick sync buy a motherboard which supports lucid logix virtu.
As you will add graphics card later you need Virtu to use quick sync then. With the help of logix virtu you can use quick sync while using DGPU.
There are some z77 motherboards like Gigabyte GA-Z77P-D3 which do not have lucid logix virtu.
For PSU get seasonic s12II 520w if possible.Or else get corsair gs600.s12II 520w is more efficient.Even if you buy corsair cx500v2 it is ok
But preferably get seasonic s12ii 520 or corsair gs600.

@VKL - Seasonic S12II 620 Watts PSU chalega?1k costlier,but i guess it will be worth it?
or Corsair CMPSU-600GUK 600 Watts PSU ? Both almost same price.
620 wala na?

^^Yes it is a nice PSU.Get it.More efficient than corsair GS600(CMPSU-600GUK 600).

With seasonic s12ii 520w you can easily fit even hd7950 in your config.
