Hi! Guys, I just followed the steps on a website on changing the WIN XP SP2 boot screen.
---- It said go to safe mode by restarting, backup the "ntoskernel.exe", copy your bootup screen (downloaded frm themexp.org) and paste it there and restart.
Well, I restarted and the boot screen appeared and then a blue screen appeared everytime which said START UP FAILURE. Now, even Safe Mode did not start. So, I went to my SuSE Linux, replaced the ntoskrnl.exe file and then WINDOWS is all right.
Now, is there any manaul safe way of changing boot screens. I don't want to use 3rd Party software which I need to pay for like StyleXP. However, plz write the sugestions or if there is any free safe software, plz post its link here...

Dood the answer to this problem is that you must have liked a particular bootscreen but did you check that if it was a SP2 one coz on themexp.org they mention which ver of windows xp does it work with if it says SP2 then its no problem but if it doesnt then u cant use it man. if u really want to use it use style xp but that gives you a dual os type selection list (which sux man). So if u want ur dream bootscreen use style xp or else themexp.org is just fine.

try boot skin XP
free too
replaces no sys file - so no worry...

after applying the bootscreen, boot ini becomes like this :
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional (bootscreen)" /fastdetect /noexecute=optin /KERNEL=kernel1.exe
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /noexecute=optin
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP HOME Backup" /fastdetect=OptIn

so u have the option of going into normal boot too...

But why change the Boot Loader? The Boot.ini file you posted indicates that when I start my PC, I will asked with whether to go with the new bootscreen or without bootscreen.. It is very irritating. Of course, we can delete one of the entries and let the bootscreen line remain...
But are the softwares mentioned above freeware??

And as for logons, there is a program called LOGON LOADER supplied on the DIGIT June DVD..
As for bootscreens, is it necessary to see whether the bootscreens are SP2 supported or not and why??

Hey,
the software's free and also, u dont have to choose the option if u have set a low countdown time like 3 secs...
the default sets off...

u asked for a safe method and i said so....

Also, for SP2, theres only 1 software that does it safe...
Style XP - if u r too paranoid then purchase it / or :p free...

Because it is the kernel file that has the bootup screen. And if my knowledge is true we cannot loas a SP1 kernel on a SP2 machine or vice-versa so we have to stick to the same kernel of os that we are using. The file name is ntoskrnl.exe
