Guys, My dad uses an Intel i810 chipset based antique PC. For sometime now, whenever it starts up, it gives a message "CMOS Checksum error - Defaults loaded Press F1 to continue". I suspected a dead battery and got it replaced, but the problem refuses to go. I now suspect a corrupt BIOS, so, I need a replacement BIOS for it. The motherboard details are as follows :

Model (BIOS string shown during POST): i810-ITE8712-6A69ME1CC-00

Also, the motherboard is an OEM board by HCL, as it shows the HCL logo during POST. So, can you guys please point out where can I find the BIOS for this motherboard?

You can find it on BIOS Updates Manufacturer's Website.

I am no BIOS Expert but I think that problem is not that much severe to call for a BIOS Update. Have you tried loading Fail Safe Defaults and saving?

Dude, the problem is that it is always on failsafe defaults. I am unable to change the BIOS settings. Whenever i change the settings, such the boot order, when it reboots, it comes back to default again. So, I am unable to change any settings.

@ OP firstly power off & unplug the power cord of ur pc ground yourself & remove the MB battery & inspect if u have damaged or broken the battery connectors while replacing if it is okay then press the power button for a minute after that install the battery & change the cmos jumper to clear cmos position power on probly there will be no display power off change the jumper to the default position & it will give the same error set the settings/date in bios save & exit & see if the problem persists
