BIOS not editable

BIOS not editable.I installed UBUNTU 11.10 Desktop in my persistent USB Drive and want to boot from it.But the BOOT USB FIRST configuration is DISABLED.and since the BIOS is not editable i am not able to turn it to enable.

some configuration points when i checked in to BIOS

• BIOS Version : RQG41104.B6A.0009.2009.0108.1005
• USER ACCESS LEVEL : [View Only]
  
• Processor Type : INTEL(R) ore 2 Duo
  E7400 @ 2.80GHz
  INTEL 64Architecture
  
• INTEL VT : [Disabled]
• INTEL VT for directed I/O(VT -d) : [Disabled]

You can try clearing the CMOS by reseating the mobo battery, in case you haven't already done it.

thats the problem.

you or someone has put a PASSWORD to protect the BIOS.

if you or anyone else didnot put any PASSWORD then it is still possible that some AntiVirus or Security Program might have locked it.

You need to find the software in your computer or RESET the BIOS through the jumpers [ please be careful, refer your motherboard manual for this ]

I know the pass,and it is not related to the uneditable BIOS,i think that the coz of it is that it is USER VIEW ABLEas i mentioned it above.
I know of the CMOS thing,removing it from the motherboard by jumpers,but i am afraid that it would affect the PC.As i had not practised before,and its my dad`s system!
please do mention an alternative of the CMOS thing.
Actually we called a computer repair person few months ago and he inserted a weird USB drive having some files naming ghost-drive(USB name) , himen.sys etc. and he updated the BIOS.I however somehow got onto that,the BIOS UPDATE,but don't have those files and even lost contact with that g33k who repaired the PC.
If possible with any windows tool , if possible to configure BIOS using an OS.

Please do mention what would be the changes made when clearing the CMOS stored settings.also one thing,the BIOS password is enabled but there are two options in the BIOS Security tab
1)Supervisor Password
2)Password(whatever it is,don't remember)

the password prompt box which is displayed the moment the PC is what,the supervisor one or the other ???

Try pressing F8/F12 when booting(before windows starts to load, just after BIOS). On my system this gives a boot option menu(usb , HDD, CD) from where I boot into USB.

If you know the PASSWORD enter it. It is the Supervisor Password.

Don't panic, nothing bad will happen if you enter the Supervisor Password, once you enter the BIOS. It will enable you to change the settings from USER VIEW only to FULL

All you need to do is
1. Set the User Access Level to Full.
2. Save the settings and exit the BIOS.
3. Restart your computer.

4. Re-Enter the BIOS screen.
5. Change the boot priority to USB removable device.
6. Save and Restart [ you can insert your Ubuntu USB pen drive at this stage and restart ]

7. Your computer will boot into Ubuntu.

If you don't know the password. Removing the CMOS battery will erase the Supervisor Password automatically. [ battery should be kept removed for atleast 10 - 15 minutes ].

Again, don't panic, even if you remove your CMOS battery nothing bad will happen to your Computer.
