I live in hostel...here we have a computer lab in hostel with high speed internet.. 10Mb/s
but we are not permitted to have internet in our rooms...the administration thinks this will spoil us....

So i am searching for a wireless provider at reasonable rates..... and yes...the speed does not matter...i mean if it is slow i dont mind... anyhow i am going to do all download's from hostel comp lab...

Get a reliance mobile. Thats the cheapest and the best. I think for 650 pm, you get 1 GB of downloads. And the speeds are around 128kbps-144kbps.

what i was actually asking for was something that is independent of mobile and with 24/7 unlimited acess..... i dont mind if it costs upto 1000 pm...
otherwise the last option would be mobile..... if i get something like this then i can share it with my friends... i already said speeds dont matter beause i am not going to download anyhting...... not even an Mb... it will just be to browse forums and check mails.....

Wireless ISPs in Kolkata! Kniwor, that's like asking if I can get Pav Bhaji masala in US. Of course, i can. But one has to mention a specific location for that kinda question. Besides, you will be better off calling your local ISPs about this than asking here. Current wireless standards allow for max range within an apartment/hostel building, ( will change pretty soon when 802.11n comes out ) so the only way an ISP will even think about deploying wireless in your hostel is if you can convince lots of people - 50+ - to get the connection.

I don't know why you specifically want wireless internet connection but you can set one up yourself by getting a wireless router and connecting it to a regular Cable/DSL broadband connection. Here's something to get you started on setting up a long range wireless network.

The last time i visited India, only Satyam was providing wireless internet and that too at specific locations in major cities. And the rates were pretty high - paid close to Rs. 300 for 4-5 hours.

Your best bet would be to, as other people have suggested, get a Reliance Mobile and use the wireless CDMA - it rocks! Great speeds almost anywhere in India :). Man, there's nothing like browsing slashdot when you're passing through a small village in a khatara indian railways train! ...Makes you see the part Reliance is playing in transforming India.

I draw every day
i`ve seen airtel gprs internet connection and it sucks.it connects at 115kbps but the speed at which the pages load and stuff downloads/uploads is even slower than my dial up.i have used net from fixed wireless terminal of reliance and its decent enough.u can go for it.

hey kniwor u wont get anything else at present wireless and unlimited................. at present u have only the option of freedom at night of reliance or many other hourly plans are there like swift 400 which offers 20 hours day usage and 20 hours night usage per month and many more plans just log on to *www.relianceinfo.com/Infocomm/Rim/rconnect_tariffs_details.html
this is the link to the tariff plan of their various plans .
