Buddy, laptop or desktop, branded or assembled non of them matters but the OS is the main thing. Win vista and above from microsoft, try windows update, choose "check for update ... let me choose to download and install them" then check for important and optional updates and you will find the drivers. just check the ones you want and then install.. Win XP you gotta be trynning really hard for its no longer supported and you have to check you hardware compatible IDs from device manager and google it from the manufacturers site.

hope this helps

not a newbie.....
you don't need to update every driver. Just keep the GPU driver upto date and you are fine.

A number of features in laptop don't work unless you install most drivers. Do install the chipset one along with the graphics driver.

Install all drivers, but update the GPU drivers regularly, update other drivers once every 6 months, laptop drivers do not get updated by manufacturer more than 2/3 times per year anyway.

Don't install each and every driver that comes with you laptop they will eat your precious CPU cycles.
Install GPU,chipset, audio, lan and webcam thats it.

drivers from Windows Update might work but they are mostly outdated and the hardware (specially dGPU) will underperform with those drivers..

For laptops and branded desktops its best to get drivers from the manufacturer's site (like HP, Dell, etc.) and its not that tedious when download managers with downloading queues are used. And manufacturers like Dell even have their own Download Manager to assist in downloading drivers. HP provides HP Support Assistant which can automatically update each and every driver of any HP branded computer.

The best way is to go to manufacturer site and download the latest drivers because even if the drivers have been update then also laptop manufacturer site has old drivers most of the time. They don't update the site frequently.
