The Hardware Labs
1. Ad Aware SE
2. Spy bot S&D
3. AVG Antivirus / Avast / Anti Vir PE
4. Zone Alarm
5. MS Antispyware
6. Ccleaner

a combination of the above all is the strongest FREE security suite .. and it will beat many (almost all) paid suites.

18 Till I Die............
I'd go for
1) Avast/AVG antivirus
2) Zonealarm Firewall
3) Spyware Blaster
4) Spybot S&D
5) Adaware SE
6) MS Antispyware(optional)
7) Any antispam tool (if you use POP mail.)

Norton Antivirus 2006 & Zone Alarm v6.xxx n above wud be a deadly combo... MS antispyware is known to crash sys. I have tried spyware blaster, ms antivirus, avg, avast, etc. & I surely can say norton & zone alarm r d best

But norton is a very big resource hogger. I find avast better for my needs alos it is free so no reason for piracy.

If you are considering a stand-alone security suite then Zone Alarm is the best.I had been using it for many months now however I was not quite confident of its antivirus. So currently I am using Zone Alarm Pro and AVG Antivirus 7.1 Pro as the firewall and antivirus combination.
As far as comp optimization software goes Tune-Up utilities 2006 together with Ashampoo Winoptimizer should suffice.

In the zone
Norton Antivirus 2005 SE (from Google Pack, not the paid version)
ZoneAlarm Free Firewall
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware SE Personal

These do the job for me.

I have used Kaspersky anti hacker as well as anti virus. But they tend to stop my comp from accessing any pages after like 25 - 30 min without my permission. If i close them my comp works fine

In the zone
one package with all the best of softwares doesn't actually work for most of the users.

try a combination of:
ZoneAlarm Pro as firewall.
Kaspersky as the AV.
MS Anti-spyware along with Ad-aware or Spybot as the anti-spyware.
Raxco PerfectDisk 7 as the disk defragmenting software.

it should work fine.
