I assume lotsa ppl out here know a lot about Graphic cards.

Moreover i see several ppl debating about how the nVIDIA series is up to match with the ATI offfering thanks to price cuts. Well different GPUs stack up well at partcular price points, so i would like a list of graphic cards and their prices, with their minimum power consumption/SMPS requirement considering we are using a .45nm Intel Processor(for example: the E7200)

Price Range -----------Price------------SMPS requirement
(Budget class)
Rs3,000- Rs4,000---------??------------------??
Rs4,000- Rs5,000--------??------------------??
Rs6,000-Rs7,000---------??------------------??
(Mid End class)
Rs7,000-Rs9,000---------??------------------??
Rs9,000-Rs11,000--------??------------------??
(Higher Mid End Class)
Rs11,000-Rs13,000-------??-----------------??
Rs13,000- Rs15,000------??------------------??

Kindly fill in the ?? marks

By the way, can some good samaritan assemble a PC with 450W SMPS for Gaming Purpose. Price shld not exceed Rs40,000. Speakers,DVD RW and UPS not needed (Wll HD4670 run on 450WSMPS??)

7k-9k - GeForce 9800GT
9k-11k - ATi HD4850
11k-13k - GeForce 9800GTX+
13k-15k - 2x9600GT :D.
15k-17k - ATi HD4870
17k-22k - GeForce GTX260
Above 22k - GeForce GTX280 and HD4870x2

PC config :-

Intel C2D E7200
BioStar i45 mobo
1x2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
WD SE16 Caviar 640Gb HDD
Palit HD4850 512MB GDDR3 SONIC
Corsair VX450W PSU
CM Elite 330 Cabinet
Dell 198WFP 19" monitor

The Corsair VX450W can even handle a HD4850 :)

Does 2X9600GT outperform the HD4870??

By the way, u didnt mention the SMPS rquirements of the GPUs listed by you.

Moreover the reason i want to know is that I am stuck with a 450W PSU that came with my branded IBM PC.
So will the HD4850 work on this PSU bundled by IBM?

Moreover, will the config you gave fit whithin Rs40k?? U didnt mention individual prices

at 6k -7k geforce 9600gt is better
9k-11k palit HD4850 sonic is the best
11k-13k none ..cos 9800gtx+ is waste for money in front of palit HD4850 sonic
15-17k palit HD4870 512 MB
17-19k palit HD4870 sonic...GTX260 is waste of money
19-22k palit HD4870 1GB
above 22K - HD4870x2

a corsair vx 450 is required for gfx card from 9800gt to HD4870 ..

but its recommended u get atleast a good 500 W PSU and above for HD4870 and above ...

Does 2X9600GT outperform the HD4870??

no 2x9600gt will not outperform HD4870

By the way, u didnt mention the SMPS rquirements of the GPUs listed by you.
gfx card upto 9600 gt should do well with a 400W PSU

Moreover the reason i want to know is that I am stuck with a 450W PSU that came with my branded IBM PC.
So will the HD4850 work on this PSU bundled by IBM?
no it will not ..u need a good 500 W PSU to run ...else ur card will not power up and will not give a display with the PSU u have right now..get a corsair Vx450 W atleast to get it up and running.

Moreover, will the config you gave fit within Rs40k?? U didn't mention individual prices

approximate prices

E7200 - 5.9k
MSI P45 neo -5.9k
palit HD4850 sonic -11.35k
dell 19" 198 WFP -9.8k
Corsair VX 450W- 3.2k
seagate 640 GB (32 MB)-4k
transcend 2GB 800MHz - 1.5k

comes about 41.5k ..but u can go for lower hard disk if u want ..perhaps 320 GB ?that will bring down everything to 40k

What about the new HD4830? dunno if its out here yet but its priced only at 130$ and outperforms the 9800GT....So anything below 9k id recommend that one

Yes, although it's a massive power consumer(almost as HD4850)

But the prices shud be anything between 100-129$ within a week or two of launch.

ANd if u hav a resolution of 1680x1050 or lower, makes complete sense to get a HD4830

Problem with buying seperate PSU is the COST factor,

Imagine i had just Rs10,000

Geforce 9600GT may cost Rs6,500
IBALL Case with 450W PSU will cost Rs 2,000
Total= Rs 8,500

But if i go for:
CM 350 Case +CM 450W it will come to something around Rs4,500
Total=More than Rs10K !!
Better compromise on dedicated PSU and get better hardware i feel :?

take any case with some cooling needs , or else take the cooler master extreme power 500 watts 2.5 k
casing -1k (mercury or any branded)

for ur information corsair 450 is 4.1k

try to add 2.5 k more for gfx card then ur future need is satisfied ------->palit HD 4850 for 9.7k

in 2-2.2K you will get CM 460W Extremepower.
If not that Powersafe PSUs are better than iBall or Zebronics.

as for the gfx card
8600GT is good in price less than 3K only
in 4-5K range is 9500GT which is good.
in 5-6K there are HD3850, HD4670(HD3850 beats HD4670)
6-7K 9600GT or HD3870
8-8.5K 9800GT
9-11K HD4850
Palit's Sonic Edition cards are real crackers be it 9600GT in 7K or HD4850 in around 12K

while considering a good gfx cards you just do not see the performance of the card, the goodies coming with it also count and the ports on it also counts, until and unless you mean to change things in 6 months.

if u have 10k budget .... get a 9800gt + CM460W ...will be in ur reach ..but if u can extend the budget a little bit ...spend some more or wait sometime and get a HD4850 ..thats absolute minimum ...
