My Config:

ASROCK - K7VM2 MotherBoard - VIA Chipset

40 gb HDD

WIN 2000 SP4

AMD Athlon 2g hz.

256 mb DDR RAM - pc 1200 - hynix

One fine day, when I switched on my PC, all it could say was,

*BEEP*, *BEEP*, *BEEP*, ^Long Pause^ *BEEP*, *BEEP*, *BEEP*,

and that repeats

So, I checked the RAM , CPU , Fan blah blah blah blah .................
..... blah.

So, then I removed the RAM from the first slot and put it in the second slot.

Exchanged the SMPS - Power Supply from older celeron to this PC.
And "voila" , it was back in action.

It worked fine until I rebooted and tried to enter BIOS. It was password protected.

And I had forgotten my BIOS ( Setup ) password.

To recover it I removed the motherboard battery,

ran the PC again , enter the BIOS and removed the password,

rebooted again WITH BATTERY,

then when I was trying to set date and time,

the letters and numbers were flickering and suddenly all I could see was
lot of

00000 000 00000 000 000000 000 00000 000000 00120 w00sa000d0000

So, I reset the system but no response at all. Not even a *BEEP*.

As far as I know that possibly means that the BIOS was erased.

Is this tragedy recoverable?

Is my MoBo dead?

How do i repair this?

Please Help, My Athlon's life depends on you answer.

ThanX in Advance.

In many cases like this when trying to diagnose a problem from a distance, it's not possible to single out one thing and say that THIS is the culprit. There are often a lot of possibilities that have to be tried out one after the other in a logical sequence.

None of the actions you've described would normally damage a motherboard. Maybe it's something you unintentionally failed to describe that's causing you problems. For instance, did you fail to disconnect everything from the mains when working on the innards of your computer ? Did you take precautions against static electricity ?

Anyway, your mobo may not really be damaged at all. Try clearing the CMOS once more, and this time, if a CMOS Clear jumper is provided on your mobo, use it to reset the BIOS before re-inserting the battery into its socket.

My own practice when trying to isolate a starting problem like this is to disconnect all drives - HDD, CD, FDD, etc. (power supply connectors and data cables) and remove all extra cards. If you're using a gfx card, remove that too and use the onboard VGA output for the time being.

Make sure all connections to the mobo, including the front panel connectors, are firmly attached. Remove the RAM stick(s) and insert it again firmly. If you have more than one RAM stick installed, use only one stick for the test.

Then try to start the computer and see if you get a POST screen.

Please Tell me what is the e-mail ID to ask this question on Digit Magazine?

no use mailing them dude .. i have mailed them a million times but never got a reply back with solution. All they will write back is "we receive more mails than we can handle , rest assured we are hearing ..." ...

regarding your problem .. i dont have a clue but its something serious for sure. If your mobo is under warranty take it to the authorised service centre.
