1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:normal stuff.. movies, little bit of office stuff. but yeah, no gaming.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:as this is for my friend and he asked me a config for 15k, i think i will stick with budget only.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:nah, never.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:win 7 64bit

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:he has 160gb already and to the plus point he dont like to store stuff. so please tell the hdd pricing separately.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:yes, 20 inch maybe. i know nothing about resolution, so please suggest something. main use will be movies.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:he just wants CPU+monitor. (CPU= ram, proccey,mobo, psu and cabinet) quote hdd separately as it is not a mandatory thing.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:ASAP

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:i will do it myself.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:indore, but my friend will be visiting mumbai in a week or so, so he can buy components from there, but bulky items will be ordered online or locally

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:i love TDF, thats it i guess :D

If he's only into multimedia stuff then there's no point getting Win7 x64. Use 2GB RAM and Win7 x86.

where did you get that price for an AMD A6 3500 and mobo???

guys i was searching for prices... got AMD A6-Series A6-3650 for ~3900
AMD Athlon II X2 260 @~3500...

that price on MDComputers site is wrong.most probably it is for a6-3500.their site maintenance is not of a high order.MDComputers btw is a very big & known shop in kolkata.

Processor - AMD Athlon quad-core X4 635,
Mother board - ASRock 890GX Extreme3
in 9k,used. so whats good? the a6 config or this one?

1) This config will be better will be good in long term. the thing is 9k is high for a used product. Try getting the processor only if you can. That processor when it was there in market costed Rs.4500 before going out.
2) The A6 config will be having a lot better IGP(Integrated Graphics Port) so which will give you great performance even while watching HD movies.

I dont think you need a Quad core Athlon for that.

i talked to the seller.. he is ready to sell the proccey in 3.5k.could get a mobo for it separately is it a good deal now?

actually my friend is on a tight budget of 15k.. so going for A6 seems a problem as A6 config you mentioned is nearly 17k. also he wants a 20" monitor & you quoted a 18.5", so that will be some extra bucks.

and simply hes no computer geek, he just wants to play alot of movies(thats reason for 20") and do nothing else(no need to mention FACEBOOK :D). so i was thinking is i could get anything to save his money.

one more thing, the Athlon quad-core X4 635 will be able handle some games at low settings? if ever needed.

btw i found two mobos with dvi port.. which one is good?

Get the Gigabyte one and make sure you're getting the Revision 3.1 board. There are other versions of this mobo are available like 1.1 or 4.0. Don't get them.

Really comes down to which IGP the mobo has :wink:

Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P should handle basic games like Angry Birds etc. Few older NFS at lowest resolution and settings.

But recommended to go for a low end GPU.

he will upgrade to a gpu if needed by right now he cant afford that.
