APC - their first version was EXCELLENT. Not sure how many seen it, I have it at home, slim, white color. Bought it 5 yr back I think, changed only battery, no problems for other parts.

But they introduced 'Indian version' after that and I think the first model is no more available. I used the Indian ver for some time too, thats black in color, can place on top of table, less weight etc. Personally (and from the APC service centre people), this version is inferior to the first one and may have complaints very often. Sure they will replace the UPS very fast (in my case, they replaced it in 12 hrs ! Just a call to their bangalore office - toll free - next day morning they came with replacement UPS - thats to my office in Cochin, Kerala).

I do not know whether they rectified the problems of the second gen UPS, please check with people who bought it last yr / this yr. Meantime, if you ever get the first type, evenif it is second hand, go for it. I strongly recommend it.

Had bought 8 nos. of 500 VA APC in the office one year back and till now there is no problem.
Using Liebert-Emerson for CPU and Powercomm for monitor (both 600 VA) at home for last 2 years without any problem. Liebert-Emerson is very good though somewhat costly.

I am using APC for eh! 2 months ...working  but my cousins since 3 years...no probs. Best part is APC has On site warranty. Both Wstern Digital and APC (Amercian Companies) have Onsite warranty....thats nice :)

OK, I guess they rectified problems in the Indian version. Then go for it.

I have 2 UPS at home, one the old ver APC and another a big online UPS, company - Safe Power (I think it is in Kerala only ? Not that big company) use it for last 3 yrs, no problems. As your budget is 2500 and you will not need online UPS, you can go for the normal APC UPS.

Yes, Safe Power is made in Cochin, but generally of very good quality. I had used a Safe Power 700 VA dual battery UPS for about 6-7 years and only had to replace the batteries after about 4 years.

BTW, what is the capacity of your online in VA, what battery (in AH) you are using, how much backup you get and how much it cost you?

One of my friends (at Pathanamthitta) manufactures his own brand of UPS with parts brought from Delhi. He told me that out of all the ones made in Kerala, Safe Power is the best.

If 500 VA is sufficient, get APC 500 for Rs.2000-2100.

with CRT monitor,my experiance is 500VA is not sufficient.go for 600 VA one-aajakal yahi chalta hai.500 va simply doesnt fit for a good rig.for eg:I can not cold start(without mains on) my 500VA .

For your budget Microtek double battery will be the best. 800va (must for high end gaming machine) and about 30 min backup. All for Rs 2500.

I bought the Safe Power Online UPS from one of my friends 3 yr back. He used it for about 3 yrs. So it is working perfectly for 6 yrs now. I am not sure about new UPS from safe power, just like APC, new models may be inferior.

My UPS is 1 KVA. It use 2 80 AH battery. I get 6 hr backup for 2 PCs.
