AOE via LAN

Hi!

My frnd and me are planning to play AOE 3 and some other games via LAN. He is having a laptop and me having a desktop. We are having a crossover cable. Both laptop and desktop are having Windows 7 ultimate. Can anyone please tell me step by step instruction to achieve so.

Make them see each other (ie config the IPs)
Launch AOE, choose multiplayer, choose LAN,
P1 should select create and P2 should select join.
