whenever U buy a CD or DVD writer u get a NERO software with it OK ? Now as far as I am concern NERO burning rom is NOT a free software , this means the price of that software is included with the burner's price ?............. I want to know how much NERO gets when every writer is sold?
( i bought liteon 2 times )
and if I get the Cdrw without the software package so it will be priced lesser . isnt it?

I can use a free software instead because I dont use some additional features by NERO , I just do for some dev backup .

There is nothing you can do about it because there is no offer without nero. If such offer exist, then everybody will buy without nero. This is forcing something through one's throat even if one doesn't like it. This is the same problem which forced me to buy assembled computers, rather than branded ones. Many branded vendors told me that they include bundled software price also in the price of the pc. Many a time we do not require such software.

Well guys, nice question.

Every piece of hardware comes with its supporting software and price of that s/w adds up with the total hardware cost which u pay to the dealer and assumes....:D u are getting free software.

We all are so smart (or atleast think) but whenever we go to a branded h/w we simply pay for the s/w too.

Like if u buy a brand new PC you will pay for XP Home Edition.
or if the PC is lil cheaper then they must be using LINUX.

So guys don't think that u never paid for a s/w and u r so smart. Even we pay for on-line security s/w which is provided by our ISP or broad band wala.

I'd bought a Sony Writer for my sis...and it didn't come with Nero...instead it had some addon software which you could install in XP to give additional functions to the inbuilt WinXP cd-burning tools...

peace..

^^ That's an OEM drive. The OEM drives come without software and IDE cables. And yeah, they are cheaper than retail drives.

The version of NERO bundled with CD Writers is not the standard NERO Suite but an OEM version of the suite... What happens is that the manufacturers of the CDR drives purchase these specially-custom-made versions of the software... Since they purchase in bulk, they get it much cheaper than regular price, and also ensure that the versions work only with their models of drives... ie, a OEM CD that came with a Sony CDRW wont work with a Samsung CDRW...

If memory serves me correct, OEM versions also have limited free upgradability as compared to regular versions...

CDRW Drives typically come with software for burning... Some have custom-made software of their own while others have OEM versions of famous software such as Nero or Roxio (not much heard of here....).

Only specific models of bigger brands come without the Nero OEM so you have to be specific in shopping... Personally, I dont think the cost difference is very high because I think the OEM version for large companies is pretty small... If you are able to find a cheaper drive without Nero, you can go for free burning software such as Deep Burner and CD Burner XP Pro...
