The OP has said that he need a 3.5" or + screen so there is no fun in suggesting Ray.
Yes SE Experia Pro is a very good option.
And LG Optimus 2X can also be considered

Lagger ~ ..
I would suggest you to go for either XPERIA Pro or Nokia N8 with Symbian Anna ..

Suggested Nokia N8 as your focus is more on the Camera ... and N8 has an excellent 12MP cam..(Didn't saw the android before) Xperia Pro Must..

Check the comparison of XPeria Pro, Xperia Ray and Nokia N8..

The original Arc can be grabbed by increasing budget by a few thousands but i don't think Arc is freely available everywhere. Also O2X is discontinued. Hence same as Arc. no easy find.
So its either Pro or maybe the Samsung Galaxy S Plus that is selling for under 21k now.

As we know that Arc S is available for 21k in local market.
If the OP finds the original Arc then it should priced around 19k

sony xperia pro seems to be a good option. as im working on android apps i wanted an android phone so can't think of n8, else it would have been a good choice too. though i heard symbian is shutting down.

and what about Xperia x10, is it already discontinued?

thanks for the replies, they are really helpful

Enjoy~!

^^ Xperia X10 is discontinued last year. Don't go for it. terrible battery backup. pro too won't offer more than 24hrs backup but with a really well spreadout keyboard, its a small sacrifice in terms of battery life

24 hour battery back up is good enough for me if its under normal use that includes few snaps, some internet/gps, talktime, and hour of music without display etc.

sounds odd but i ain't looking for LG, for no reason. though its a good phone. just a matter of brand choice. so my priority is sony, samsung. nokia is also out of option as they don't use android.

ps: im buying by next week so still have a 8-9 days survey time. will keep posted.

Enjoy~!

So IMHO, you should go for Xperia Pro, as it suits your needs the best -

Im looking for an android phone with in 19,000/- - MRP is Rs. 20K, slightly overbudgeted

GPS - Yes
Wifi - Ofcourse :D
8MP Cam or good 5MP (Carl Zeiss etc) - Good 5MP cam with 720p recording
Large screen (3.5" or above) - 3.7 Inch
Nokia/Sony Ericsson/Samsung. - Sony Ericsson

Also, you mentioned that you are working on some apps for android? Mind putting some light on this wannabe programmer? :D :)

How about LG Optimus 2X ?

powerful hardware but crap software. also this results in bad battery backup. another thing is, gingerbread is even more buggy than froyo in case of 2X (same for all LG mobiles). but strangely DEVs like LG mobiles the most. maybe cause of the easy rooting & flashing custom roms :)

GSM Arena posted a review of Pro where they said about 24hrs battery backup. do check it.

Sam, i heard Optimus 2X will be getting the ICS update! Devs have confirmed it!
LG used its Facebook page to confirm that "rumors that claim LG will not be providing the ICS OS update for the Optimus 2X" are not true. The Koreans said they are already in the process of planning the update and they will be announcing the update schedule once ICS is made publicly available by Google.

So it might be a good choice!

ICS update at Q4 (for O2X) when other mobiles will get Android Jelly Beans update is nothing but a big joke. Thats the reason i went for custom rom only a month after getting my LG mobile. never looked back at stock rom

are you sure that we can get for 21k in local market..?

i just enquired in chennai about the Arc S but i couldnt find what you said for 21k

@ OP
Sony acquired Ericsson's share in the venture on February 16, 2012.The European Union approved the buyout. On February 16, 2012, Sony announced it had completed the full acquisition of Sony Ericsson.
Sony just announced dual core phones .. Sony Xperia P, Sony Xperia U,Sony Xperia S and Sony Xperia Ion both are dual core ...so you must chck both the phone specs ...though it will take some more time but i guess it will be worth waiting for them

Few guys have posted here on TDF only that they are getting it for 21k.

Apart from that I have compared Arc and Incredible S and found Incredible S to be much better, and as we all know there is just a slight bump in the processor in Arc S.But Incredible S is priced for around 24k.

Jelly Beans is still a rumour and is far away from releasing. But such is the android phone market. Google updates come, and it takes a lot of time for the developers to skin it and release to the consumer. Expect "Jelly Beans" to be nowhere near the fall of 2012 ( if the world doesn't end LOL ) so IMHO it's good that the phones are getting ICS update.

jelly beans will be announced in July (as rumors states) so it should be out as update for some mobiles after 5months. yes, some mobiles are getting ICS updates (or stable beta builds) but most will get it at Q3. mostly cause of the added skin and testing for bugs & stability.
