ring_wraith the apps you are talking about are simple java apps which, lets face it, are totally lame when compared to native Symbian and Windows Mobile apps. Their functionality is too limited. You can for example install a divx player or ogg player in your smartphone but you can't do that in a non-smartphone (because there isn't such software and probably will never be). There are also several office document apps available for smartphones for viewing or editing them which are not available for standard phones. There are app which let you use your pc net on the phone. The list goes on. In a standard phone you if you want a particular function, like for example divx playback, you have to wait for the manufacturer to make such a phone with this function. But in smartphone you're just a software download away in getting that feature.
