Pentium D is considered to b a very old CPU line these days.If u want only Intel then look for nothin less than Core 2 Duo(as u wanna use ur DDR2 RAM).
for AMD u mite hv to change ur RAM to DDR3.
BTW wats ur budget for CPU+MoBo?

which ati graphics do u already have?

i say...go for AMD Athlon II X3 435 @ 3.5k and Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2 @ 2.5k.

but i will strongly suggest making ur budget 10k...and go for AMD athlon II X3 435, gigabye 880GM-ud2h motherboard and 2GB DDR3 1333mhz RAM. perfect upgrade.

amd athlon II x2 250 will be better than intel e5400. both are similarly priced.

however, Intel c2d e7500 still costs 5.3k. that is equal to how much your total budget is!!

Any other board as GA-MA74GMT-S2 is nvidia based board is it good, any amd chipset ddr2 board.
