AMD PC for 17K

I only have 17K at present :(

I've never used an AMD PC before, and am apprehensive, as earlier I used to hear about heating problems. But have decided to go for it.

I'll be using it for general purposes, watching HD videos and gaming (don't know names of games, whatever runs), and a bit of photoshop work.

What I need - processor, mobo, PSU and cabinet.

What I don't need - speakers (have F&D 2.1), HDD (have 1 TB one), KB and mouse, DVD drive.

Will add a full HD 22 inch monitor later.

Don't plan to overclock.

Will run XP, Win7, and maybe Win8 later.

Graphics card - will add one later, a good one. But if there's a processor without integrated graphics, please suggest that as well.

Live in Gandhinagar, will buy locally or from Ahmedabad, or online if cheaper, assembled by a friend.

Sweet Poison
Amd A10 5800k for 8500
msi fm2 cost mother board 4000
gskill 8GB ddr3 ram kit 3500
Total 16000.
This is a ballpark price from Flipkart

BhargavJ, check the street prices also at your location, Flipkart prices for computer components are way higher. In Kolkata A10-5800K is retailing below 8K including tax.

Goahead, the days of heating are done with AMD - that is mostly 2005 and all..
Buy any Trinity quad core based config as already suggested - the best you can fit in your budget.

Well AMD setup might be the best for you. [these days , they are giving intel a run for money in entry level segment.]
Since you are planning to add a decent GPU later on , so go for one that can easily crossfire.

Thanks for including RAM, I had forgotten to mention that. Still need info on PSU, and need a 500 or 550 watts one. What about cabinet, will any do?

Do all these cards have integrated graphics? Also, the flipkart page of the MSI mobo says it has integrated graphics card; I thought it was the processor that integrated graphics?

MSI FM2-A55M-E33 Motherboard - MSI: Flipkart.com

Is Wifi integrated, like in my laptop, or requires a separate dongle?

Flipkart is giving FX6100 at 45% off, at rs. 7758 instead of 14000. Is it a real discount or is it generally available at this price?

AMD 3.3 GHz AM3 FX6100 Processor - AMD: Flipkart.com

Suggest a good Gfx card as well, one that will crossfire. I was thinking of HD 7850, but that's at a later stage, when I have money. But this link here says can't crossfire it with higher than 6670:

Edit: I checked other sites, seems like FX6100 is priced around 7500 everywhere. So no real discount on Flipkart.

If you can extend your budget then this might suffice to your needs:

AMD FX 4100 -6000,
Asus M5A97 R2.0 -5500,
Corsair 4GB 1600 MHz Vengeance -1400,
NZXT Source 210 Elite -2900,
Corsair CX 430 v2 -2800.

Total -18,600.

If you want to add a monitor & GPU later on then Dell ST2220L @8000 & Sapphire HD7850 2GB OC @13500 is your best bet.The prices specified are the local prices only.

If I get an FX processor, I'll have to buy a graphics card right now, since the FX series don't have integrated graphics, from what I've read.

And I'll go for a 500 watts PSU.

Is the performance of the integrated 7770 graphics card and a discrete 7770 the same? Secondly, if I add a 6770 1 GB DDR5, what kind of perfomance will I get - double?

Cilus

laborare est orare
There is no integrated HD 7770 available til date. The maximum you get is a HD 7660D with A10-5800K which by processing power, equivalent to HD 6670 but performs slower than desktop HD 6670 due to the lack of dedicated high speed Graphics memory,

Sorry, I had meant the integrated 7660, not 7770. btw, can I crossfire any card with A10-5800K? And I've heard that A10-6800 is coming soon; is it worth the wait?

Congratulations.....

Can anyone tell how is this processor (Intel G2010) compared to AMD quad 635 & does it has onboard graphics?

Per core performance is much much better in G2010 but applications/games which can use more than 3 cores will perform better with the amd one.
And onboard graphics are better in intel

No

Here is my suggestion-
i3 3220 ----- 7k
cx500 -------3.5k (this price is right, right ?)
4gb ddr3 (2x2 or 4x1) ---- 1.2k (don't go with 8gb, it would be wasting money)
That leaves you with 5.5k
Adjust cabby and mobo according to your needs.
You will find many options for mobo. Research properly, make a list of priority features( some imp ones IMO are USB3, sata 3,etc), see if the mobo you are looking at supports them or not and only then finalize. And one more thing, on ASUS. Don't think as if I have generalized it. Most of the people would agree with me here

As you mentioned that you had shortlisted 7850, I believe that your budget is around 15k.
Now in that case the above rig will best suit you.

Fx 4100 - Per core performance is really bad. Worse than amd APU and sandy/ivy bridge. No integrated graphics unlike i3 3220, so no gaming till you buy your 7850. Also crappy upgradibility factor (unless you go with 9xx chipset)
A10 5800k - Single threaded performance better than that bulldozer but still much behind i3. Again bad (read worst) upgradibility factor. Integrated graphics are really great, much much better than 3220's but what happens when you buy 7850 ?
i3 (IGP) << A10 (IGP) but
i3 + 7850 > A10 + 7850
If there wouldn't have been any plan to buy a 7850 later, I would have readily agreed with A10 suggestions.
But scenario is different here

if you have fear of amd heat then here is better intel system
h61 board 2.5k
i3-3220 6.5k
4GB ram 1.5k
vs-450 smps 2k
local cabinet 0.5-1k
hd5570 1GB ddr5 4.5k

h61 with i3 (ivy bridge) ?
Not all sandy chipset mobos support ivy processors.
Even if they do, you will need to update BIOS, unless the mobo is new in the market, which is very unlikely.
And updating BIOS without any OS installed is really tricky. OP would need a sandy proccy to install OS and then will update BIOS then would need to take out that sandy and put his own ivy. Well tiresome, isn't it.

Even I'm having doubts about A-10 5800K now. My plan is to add a good graphics later, and with A10, it is not possible to crossfire a card higher than 6670, as far as I know. i3 or i5 is the best bet it seems. I currently have an i3 laptop, and it runs games pretty good. I have a question though, if I buy an i3 or i5, and then add a graphics card, the integrated graphics will go waste, won't it - I mean, it will not work in tandem with the other graphics card for a better performance, will it?
