^Intel monopoly will end ;) Hopefully!
another monopoly will be born "nvidia" in gfx market :p

Already ATI is looking better than nVidia. AMD has utilised ATI's potential to a huge extent, and their cards are comming from a smaller 55nm process, and they are also a hell lot cheaper, better VFM and better performance per dollar.

So there is no reason for the two companies to merge. As I already said, Havoc may be purchaced by AMD, but thats the limit. No more purchases. They now need to cash in on ATI's success, then develop better CPUs, as Athlon X2, which was made to compete against Pentium D, is still there while intel has moved generations ahead. AMD ofcource, releases fewer but better and more lasting products, and I am fully in support of them as long as they release high end OSS drivers for CPUs and GPUs as soon as possible.

@akshay, cool name dude! hope this happens, and we get hot CPU's from AMD. Also, if this happens, we'll might get NVIDIA GPU in AMD tri core chip that will be launched sometimes in future.

Dude, after buying ATI, they have been pretty short of cash. I dont think they will be able to take out enough cash even from the market to buy nVidia

Hey guys,

Check out this detailed article on AMD's merger.

AMD: To merge or not to merge?

Some important things in that article deals with:

AMD's past & current state
AMD's SNAP deals (SNAP - Strategic Nvidia-AMD Partnership) Pros & Cons
AMD's only 2 potential buyers - NVIDIA & IBM (if taken over by foreign company, it would lose x86 licenses & AMD will be undervalued)
Why IBM is a potential buyer for AMD ?

Excerpts from the Article:

Failed AMD-Nvidia merger, take I
However, with the recent talk about Nvidia buying ATI, it would be only logical to go back at that point in time when AMD wanted to buy Nvidia. In fact, Nvidia was AMD's first choice for acquisition. At the time of negotiations, AMD's market cap was $23 billion, and Nvidia was worth somewhere in $11-13 billion range, or just about dead-even between merger and acquisition. We're talking about the second half of 2005, and AMD was looking into ways to respond to upcoming Intel threats called Nehalem and Larrabee.
The second unfavorable factor is the debt-to-equity ratio. Nvidia has a lot of money in the bank, currently about $2.4 billion, but to eat up a company like AMD, it would have to cough up somewhere in tune of $10 billion, since AMD is $5.4 billion in debt.
Why IBM? IBM is a logical choice to buy AMD. For starters, AMD cannot be bought by just anybody, since there are limiting factors with the license for the x86 architecture. If AMD would be acquired by a foreign company (such as Samsung), that license would be lost, and that would diminish the value of AMD as a company. Thus, Nvidia and IBM, are the only two real players are in the game.
When it comes to IBM, the matter of market cap is very simple - AMD is currently valued at $3.88 billion and Nvidia goes for $13.44 billion. IBM is valued just below the $150 billion mark. Thus, AMD is pocket money for IBM, and the potential gains with AMD under IBM's wings are numerous.
I think that will clear most of the questions asked here about who will acquire & which is a more profitable merger with AMD.

Not to mention bad OpenGL performance, lots of heat & a power hungry card & not so good drivers.

i doesnt think that this merge will happen coz AMD already have ATI which r giving tough competition to nvidia
@shadow2get yeah if AMD really combines with The mighty IBM these would be one of revolutionize step in tech. industry
