Airtel 3G in south india?

I don't see a reason why the mobile manufacturers produce 3G mobiles to india while we yet to have 3G technology from mobile networks in india

MTNL starting 3G in Mumbai and delhi in February

Private companies are yet to get the spectrum for that. As of now, the date for auction is Jan 30, 09. So won't be available before 3-4 months in any part of the country.

MTNL said the commercial launch for this service will be taking place within next 10 days only. So Delhi should get in Jan itself.

BSNL is already offering 3G services in pune in certain areas n 3G compatible cellphones do show "3G" network. I cudnt try it coz they are currently available only to Rs.725 monthly rent scheme subscribers (afaik it is being offered free of cost at the moment).....
