5.1 home theatre with standalone dvd player

Hey guys,
i m totally confused with my dvd player behavior,
i have connected my 5.1 home theatre to my dvd player correctly as per respective connections on both ends.
now when i turn my dvd player on 5.1 audio mode n play movie, the main dialog track seems missing, i just get all other front &rear & subwoofer sounds, but not any dialogs.
but immediatly if i switch my dvd player to any other mode like Stereo/ surround /Lt-Rt mode it works fine with main voice(dialogs).
why this happens? any help?
note- if i plug cable for 'CENTER' speaker to any of front speakers slot, i get that missing main dialog sound, but then i cant get music on that.

So did you connect center to front & front to center??

I think that the movies which u r trying to play are encoded with 2 channel sound .... try playing something else with has DOLBY DIGITAL Sound.....
