1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Games (bf3, skyrim, and other games in that level) , Movies, and just normal activities.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 40000 INR. Yes, it can fluctuate, only a little bit though.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Yes, but only in the future, not immediately. I also need to overclock the gpu.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7, but don't know whether 64-bit or 32, your suggestion.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: I already have an 200GB harddrive, so I only need like 500GB more right now.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: I already have a monitor, LCD 17", 1280x1024. Not planning to upgrade that, happy for now.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: I have a Sapphire 5770 HD with VaporX, for overclocking. I don't need an another GPU.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: 2 months.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Chennai. Buying locally.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Price can go lower or higher, if it makes it a better build. I know HD5770 isn't much but I feel like that much is enough for me. I don't care about the looks, as long as it performs.

Also, please add a good UPS inside the budget, for the build too.

Core i5 2400 11.4K
Intel DH67CL-B3 @ 5.6K
Corsair value series 4GB X 2 DDR3 1333 MHz Ram @ 2.4K
WD Caviar Blue 500 GB SATA @ 4K
Corsair CX 500 V2 @ 3.5K
APC 600VA UPS

The AMD alternative will be:

AMD FX 8120 @ 9.5K
Asus M5A97 @ 6.2K

With this config you can overclock the CPU.

Its pointless starting a config setup thread 2 months before you purchase the system. This market is pretty volatile the items, prices will be irrelevant then.

Change of plans, came into some money lately , actually getting it this week (friday).

I'm thinking of this setup:

Intel Core i5 2500 Processor - 3.3GHz ----- Rs 12,250.00
DH67CL-B3 ------------------------------ Rs 5,700.00
Corsair DDR3 4GB 1333 MHz Value Select--- Rs. 2500.00 (2 of them is Rs. 2500)
Seagate 1TB----------------------------- Rs 4,725.00
Asus Internal DVD/RW SATA : DRW-24B3ST- Rs. 1100.00
Cooler Master Chasis Elite 430 with side window--- Rs 3,155.00
Corsair CX 500 V2 @ 3.5K
APC 600VA UPS

Am I doing it right?

What u choose is locked processor, u cannot overclock it. Go for 2500k [can overclock] priced @ 12800 in delta peripherals

If you dont plan to OC, edit out that requirement from the first post.
The i5 2400 is more value for money.
Opt for 2*2gb memory modules. 2gb modules are like Rs 800
Rest of your config looks good.

OS 32/64 bit depends on your application usage. I would guess 32bit would suit you just fine.
32bit limits your max usable memory to around 3.5GB.

^^ Buddy, 2 GB modules are history now and 4 GB modules are now current standard. Why waste memory slots when 4 GB rams are available at 1.2K?

where are you getting seagate 1 tb for 4725 bucks ?

the OP should go for wd blacks instead of seagate.
seagate gives 1 yr warranty wd is 3-5 yrs depending on the model...

I found on deltapage: Seagate 1 TB SATA Desktop 3.5" Internal HDD (1000 GB) - www.deltapage.com .

But I'm not sure if it's a good version, the SKU says SGT1000GBSATA . Nothing in Google for SGT1000GBSATA. Should I just go for WD500GB?

Probably a 5900rpm hdd.
Warranty : WD black 5yrs, blue 3 yrs, green 2 yrs.
WD blacks are pretty costly, blues are the best bet.

I've decided on this build -

Intel Core i5-2500 Processor--------------------------Rs 12,250.00
Intel DH67CL-B3 Motherboard-------------------------- Rs 5,700.00
Corsair Value Select 4GB DDR3 1333MHz-------------------------- Rs 1,275.00 (2)
WD Caviar Blue 500 GB HDD-------------------------- Rs. 3684
Corsair CMPSU-500CXV2UK PSU-------------------------- Rs. 3933
Asus DRW-24B3ST-------------------------- 1,100.00
Cooler Master Chasis Elite 430-------------------------- Rs 2,895.00
APC 600VA-------------------------- Rs 2,250.00
Creative SBS A335-------------------------- Rs. 1821

If you guys give it a go, I'll buy it in a few days. Also, is this APC 600VA fine? Would it be good for the 500w PSU? Would it shut down when I'm using resource intensive games, etc. and the power goes out? Info please. :D

Both ups and psu are fine.
Should opt for the i5 2400 and save some money.
600va might give you around 10 min backup.
