[Smartchoice] HP OMEN Gaming Laptop, AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS, 8GB RTX 4060 GPU, 16.1" (40.9cm), FHD, IPS, 165 Hz, 300 nits, 16GB DDR5, 1TB SSD, RGB KB, 7 ms Response time (Win 11, Black, 2.32 kg), xd0020AX *amzn.in/d/9yMEWbx

I found this one but exceeds budget by 10K.

One thing to let you guys know that he won't be gaming on it, he only needs GPU to run image recognition YOLO models/Train Models. Other than that there is no work for GPU for him as he doesn't game.

4060 is a better dGPU for productivity as well

But can settle for say Omen or Legion 7840HS + 4050 as well under 95k if you don't get 7840HS + 4060 back at 95k.

A friend needs laptop for daily work (He uses Jetbrains' IDEs, with slack and other apps like Postman etc. with high number of tabs in chrom) is the difference between these 2 worth the 5400rs gap? These are under configuration for thinkpad P series.

Also, between Ryzen 7 7735HS and Ryzen 5 8640HS, which one is better?

R5 8640HS is better, big single core performance jump but multi core performance jump is not significant vs 7735HS.

For jump to 8840HS, decide if it is worth the extra 20% performance because of 2 extra cores over 8640HS. Generally yes, assuming this is a 70k laptop. I will say 8640HS + 32GB RAM is better than 8840HS + 16GB RAM.

Got it.

Please help with the below query of the same friend.

I have someone from the UK flying back to India. For under 750GBP(About 80K INR) what is the best model available in the UK? Are macbooks cheaper there? If getting windows, would prefer asus, lenovo.
Need it for below things(any 2 of them would be done simultaneously):-
1) Development using a couple of jetbrains ide, React Native.
2) Running some Yolo models, LLMs(Not too big)
3) DevOps stuff (run docker images)
4) Running about 30-40 chrome tabs simultaneously.
5) No gaming.

I was initially thinking about a thinkpad but then they don't have option of dGPU.

Also that now we are on it, For someone else with similar above tasks Would you recommend a MacBook Air M3 With 16GB ram or MacBook Air M2 with 24GB RAM? To make sure it lasts atleast 5-6 years.

After using MBP M1 pro unit from office, 16GB RAM is also not enough. You need 32GB RAM at least.

I won't go into pros or cons of mac, for me, I will never use mac OS over Windows unless I get paid to use mac.

Just check websites their on what the best laptop is for that price.

*uk.store.asus.com/asus-zenbook-14-oled379-22516.html

He has shortlisted this. Please take a look at specs/find any issues if there are....
The following are available
1) 512GB-16GB-Ultra 5- for 749GBP (~80K INR)
2) 1TB-16GB-Ultra 7 for 849GBP (~90K INR)
3) 1TB-32GB-Ultra 9 for 946GBP (~1Lakh INR) (Refer this amazon link *www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CL6MX7YF?th=1)

They all are about 35-40K cheaper than what they retail for in India.
Now 2 questions.
1) For the use case in previous post, will 16GB RAM Suffice? is 2nd option ok to go ahead?

2) confusion is regarding warranty, does this have international warranty? (See this reddit thread *www.reddit.com/r/IndianGaming/comments/ukgmrn/laptops_bought_from_the_us_and_international/)

Most UK based laptops, even if they have global coverage, may not get serviced in India as parts are not maintained for laptop models that aren't sold in India.
Also, all UK laptops will have the UK keyboard layout which is very awkward for Indian users. I personally hate this layout.
This may not be an issue but UK power plug may not fit in Indian power socket.
Local market will definitely not be able to source parts for it.
My honest advice to anyone who wants to buy a device from abroad is, don't buy.

Given your requirements, I would choose 32 GB. In my office laptop, I run Intellij, few small project applications, Edge at least 10 tabs, then your regular Notepad++ and other utilities apps, RAM usage is around 12-15GB.
