A heartbroken Federer fan (
I wrote this here: Digit link

Rafa won Wimbledon. What i match, certainly the best i have seen. The first two sets were a let down if you are a Roger fan then what a come back he staged.N finally lost in fifth set.Speechless,by the quality of the match and the loss of Roger.Rafa played magnificently.
Match was nothing short of a heart stopper,Longest men's singles final ever at Wimbledon.

Rafael Nadal proved what he is made of.Exquisite crosscourt vollyes, forehands, backhands served us towhat has been the greatest final of all times. The first two sets saw Federer totally a shadow of what he been in the championship so far.nadal was just too much for him.He came back in the next two sets which includeda miraculous tie break return from being 5-2 down to winning the 4th set. But Nadal deservingly lived his dream. And at the end, in the post match presentation when Federer said "I tried everything", it summed it all up. Take a bow Rafa, you gave us a new champion.

My response to dreamctcher in the same thread i mentioned in my previous post.

That double fault at 5-2 by Rafa could have killed many.May be we ll hear tomorrow how many people got heart attacks watching this great match. And to ease people who havent watched this final, well, dont worry, you dont get so lucky to have two opportunities to see a match like this in a lifetime.
Im privilidged to have seen the match, really.Even though Roger lost.

Was really disappointed with Federer especially the way he succumbed to Nadal in the 2nd set after taking a 4-1 lead,he would've easily won that set had it not been anyone but Nadal.Guess he does have a sort of mental block when it comes to Rafa...

Rafa played really well, some of the cross-court passes he made were exquisite, and his serves were much more accurate when compared to Federer who had also a lot of unforced errors. When he was leading A-40 in a set,and looked all set to break the nadal's serve,he'd suddenly commit another unforced error!!..
Though he did put up a fight in the last 3 sets,it speaks volumes about Nadal's improved court play in the grass that he was able to win the 2 sets quite easily whereas Federer had to fight it out for his 2 set wins..

However, the person who writes off Federer based on his performances so far would be quite stupid..This just makes tennis more competitive.I'm quite sure that he'd be able to surpass sampras's record(>14 slam victories),but his aura of invincibility would have long since deserted him..

Nadal was at his supreme best.I have a feeling that Federer has not yet forgotten the straight set thrashing he got aginst nadal in the french open final some days ago.It showed in his play.He was trying a wee bit too hard and managed to overpower a shot which normally he would have just nudged it past the opponent. But we also have to compliment federer on how he continually came from 2 sets down to take it to the final set.
He came back again and again will fantastic volleys andcross-courts.He won 20 encoutrers on the net comapred to nadals 5-6.He came down continually to break nadals rhythm and was succesful to an extent.nadal's baseline sprints were mindblowing. He doesnt seem to go out of steam. From one part of the court to the other and streching and pulling hilself to pull out some of the greatest shots ever in tennis history.Federer's play was hugely affected by this coz,he had to have the ball just touching the baseline, else the ball would be speeding back to him the next second.More than Federer we must praise nadal for destabilizing federer in his home territory.

At the end, it was tennis who won.Wouldnt have mattered if any of them had won.We had just seen tennis at its supreme best.Anyone watched cricket while it was on?? :D

Yep,i was glued to wimbledon from 1800 hrs to 0200 hrs. Dint care to watch the match even though im a huge cricket follower.

Ya,it seems like he has a mental block or something against Nadal or else how would you explain French Open final and first two sets of yesterday's match. He ,it appears that, has no self belief that he can beat Rafa.He has developed inferior complex against him i feel.

But sure he will be back with a bang.I will sure back Federer for US open victory.

Strange, these were the exact same words that the commentator said during the 2nd set of the match...Were u really quoting him?

Haha well thats a co-incidence. But thats my belief since his loss at French Open this year.
I wrote blog entries about both his recent Glam slam losses.
You can see them here(after French Open) & here(after Wimbledon). :)

And any Federer fan will say that he his low on belief that he can beat Rafa. Its not that difficult. What other words can you use?

Yeah def agree with u on ur feelings...It's just that i found it strange that u used exactly the same lines used by the commentator and in the same order.Thnx for clearing that up.

Federer would have created a record for being first to win 6 wimbledons unbroken and moving one win closer to Pete's record grand slam victories... But I guess Nadal was too good to handle, more so near the end... Nadal's win revived the tennis and the existing monopoly to a great extent and this year's been really good for tennis as well as Nadal. :) (I had myself falling off the edges of my seat many times. Had sent an email to BBC World Service; they aired the whole match commentary live. I had muted the TV and was listening to the commentry on the radio :D )

What I had enjoyed / will enjoy most are...

1. The terrific aces from Federer.
2. The superb forehands by Nadal.
3. The counter-forehand backhand by Federer which will be talked for ages to come.
4. The time factor... Element of curiosity lasted long enough to enjoy the longest match Wimbledon has ever seen.
5. The 9-7 victory and factors that drove Nadal towards it.

AND

Next year's final... I have strong reasons to believe that we will have the very same players next year, what say guys?

AND yes it was right when someone said.. it was tennis who won... :D
