whats app upgrade issue

Baker

Albicelestes
Today i opened the whatsapp and i got a message saying , whatsapp need to be upgraded , then i clicked on the upgrade button. it downloaded one apk file , but installation for the apk is unsuccessful with out any valid reason.

so i went to settings-->apps and tries to uninstall the whatsapp , but it says "Not installed for this user"
Then i went to playstore and tried to uninstall , it says success and try to install a new one but getting a message "you can not install this app , another user has already installed an incompatible version on this device"

i tried to down load some apk removal apps and still not able to remove the whatsapp from my phone.

PS: some time back i had installed whatsapp apk to enable voice call feature [ am not sure that is the reason]

please help me fix this issue

What is the exact make and model of your device? What and which version of operating system is it running?

Make a copy of the WA folder from the sd card to some folder in the memory card and then delete this folder from the sd card. Then try to install it via PlayStore. If it installs, then to get back your chats, copy the folders from the copied WA folder to the WA folder in the sd card.

entire whatsapp folder need to take backup..?
Yes. Copy the entire directory called WhatsApp. It contains your conversations and the media involved.

This is usually a top level directory in internal memory. May be /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp or something like that.

Use a file manager application like Amaze.

Before deleting the WhatsApp directory, please check the user settings in your phone. It is possible that a guest user has installed an incompatible version that is causing this headache. Or there is another user.

that worked , now i can copy the backup whatsapp folder to mobile right..?
Open Apps, go to WhatsApp and do Force Stop. Then remove the new WhatsApp folder which is empty now. Then copy your backup to mobile. Switch off and switch on your phone.

What exactly worked by the way?

Did WhatsApp ask you to restore from backup?

I don't think WA did because of the user issue.

Anyways Baker please update to Android 6.0 MM. It is awesome. I am waiting for Android 7.0 N. I hope the name is Nimbo Paani lol.

To get back your old chats (but lose today's) do the following :
1. Uninstall WhatsApp.
2. Delete WhatsApp folder.
3. Copy the backed up WhatsApp folder.
4. Make sure there is a file called msgstore.db.crypt9 inside WhatsApp/Databases directory.
5. Reinstall WhatsApp.
6. Select option to restore from backup when prompted.
