Phone Data lost during software update

windchimes

Can you hear it..??
Hello guys,

This may sound so dumb. I did a software update on my old Nokia E63 which I still use. Neither there was an instruction to back up existing content ( but a warning saying "may lose data" ) and I was expecting a seamless updation. But to make matters the worst I have lost all messages, contacts, pics, notes ...... Any idea if this is usually a norm or is it a standalone case? Any way to recover the data... ?

Try recuva from piriform(makers of ccleaner) it works even for hdds
Btw dont use ur phone and sd card memory otherwise u may not get back all ur data
Ps - E63 is still an amazing phone i have a red one as a backup phone and its still a stable phone compared to my other phones :)

Thanks kkn13. Got 80% of the data from an old backup I did. And started using the phone. Yes, E63 is a good model - though my phone is showing some old age issues(freezing at times). I have dropped the phone many a times in last 3 years and the body and glass still looks neat and strong..

Its normal that anything saved in the phone memory other than the SD card memory will be reset as you perform a system update.

Not always
I have updated so many blackberrys, symbians, javas, idevices and a few Droids but I've never had this issue
Only once my friend had an issue like this with his HTC one + and I guess it was because he was trying some new dualboot ROM on his phone
Losing stuff in an update is very rare but not a daily occurrence and not impossible either :)

While doing a software update the setup itself asks to save the data in the removable storage and tells us that any thing stored in the phone memory will be wiped out and a new software is going to be installed. Its normal.

It says backup incase something goes wrong try updating one of ur devices and read the message
Plus most official update tools take automatic backups in ur temp folder (read apple and blackberry)
