Please confirm the whether the current Hard disks you are having, are SATA or not? If it is not SATA then probably you have to opt for an AMD config as none of the current generation Intel Motherboards come with PATA ports.

Your current system is outdated and no point of spending money on it. Here is my suggestion for your needs:-

AMD FX-4300 @ 6.6K (Quad Core, 4MB L2 Cache, 4 MB L3 Cache, 3.8 GHz)
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev. 4.1) AMD 760G + SB710 Chipset Motherboard @ 3.2K
Corsair Value Select 1333 MHz 4GB X 1 DDR3 @ 1.5K
Local Zebronics/Frontech/Intex Cabinet W/O PSU @ 0.7K
Antec BP300 Gaming PSU @ 1.7K (Buy Antec BP 300P Gaming PSU - Gaming - Infibeam.com)
Power Color HD 5570 1 GB DDR3 @ 3.4K / Forsa GT 430 2 GB DDR3 @ 3.7K

+1 for above is also good but if you want in Intel..here we go..

Processor = Intel G2010 = 3200
Motherboard = Intel DH61HO (old but works fine with this cpu i made 20+) or Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 = 2800
Ram = Corsair 4 gb = 1600
Cabinet = any local with PSU = 1000
K/M = Dell Combo or Logitech = 700
Total = 9300 (save rest money)

or

Processor = Intel G2010 = 3200
Motherboard = Intel DH61HO (old but works fine with this cpu i made 20+) or Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 = 2800
Corsair Value Select 1333 MHz 4GB X 1 DDR3 @ 1.5K
Local Zebronics/Frontech/Intex Cabinet W/O PSU @ 0.7K
Antec BP300 Gaming PSU @ 1.7K (Buy Antec BP 300P Gaming PSU - Gaming - Infibeam.com)
Power Color HD 5570 1 GB DDR3 @ 3.4K / Forsa GT 430 2 GB DDR3 @ 3.7K
Total = 13300~13600

you can get i3 also

Processor = Intel i3 3210 = 6200
Motherboard = Gigabyte B75M-D3H = 4000
Ram = Corsair 2 gb = 1100
Cabinet = any local with PSU = 1000
K/M = Dell Combo or Logitech = 700
Total = approx 13000....

AND These Prices are little varies i think OP You will get more cheap than this when you buy Parts from Local vendor .....and depends on you Bargain skills :lol:

you will get 4 GB ram in 13k...

PS: I am currently using Celeron with 2 GB RAM (DDR1), should i increase 1 GB RAM more with current machine and wait for some time

1 GB DDR 1 Ram will cost you now 1400-1500 rs so i must say dun go with ram upgrade....not much diffrence you will see... if you have money then go and buy... if not then stay with you old machine.. as your requirement is not that much high your old machine will handle easily.... set your old machine at Best performance mode....Your desktop look will be like windows 98 :razz:

@confuse
what about PSU ?

@mastercool8695 and @confuse
I have got KB / M combo so i think i will save .7K :mrgreen:

@Cilus
I will upgrade GC later coz adding this will add more 3.4 K to my budget

thats very good..
and Afaik, you can get a Quadcore in AMD, but not in Intel :wink:

and confuse mentioned the PSU's that come with the Cabinet (IMO , dont go for those. cuz if they blow, the'll take the system with them :evil: )

hmm psu... is local... that comes with cabinet.... works good not best as compare branded .... but i sold many from last 4-5 years no problem yet.... or else get circle cabinet some what good @1500 rs... with circle psu... or put some extra bucks n get corsair or Cilus mentioned psu n any case local w/o psu

you are comparing old i3... Intel Core i3 540 - 3.06GHz - 512KB L2 - 4MB L3 its first generation

but seriously telling i am in this field from 2004 n i made only low end machines.... and made only 1 high end gaming machine that only mine with the help of think digit peoples..... i made more than 2000 thousands machines 80% 2nd hand stuff but now from last 3-4 years all new and all time used like...lowest cabinet+ psu like umax, zebronics, circle, odyssey, supercom... n all...800 to 1000 rs stuff... and till date i didnt got any single complaint from ma customers... for low end machines they are simply sufficient....

but thats true they doesn't provide that much watt power as written on psu...

so for gaming n high end machines take branded quality stuff ..for budget low end machines those cheap psu are much ok...

2000 thousands means 2 Million or 20 lakh.

Regarding comparison between a 2nd gen Core i3 (i3 2100) and FX -4300, here is the Anandtech comparison chart:-
AnandTech | Bench - CPU

You can clearly see that in most number of tests, FX-4300 is well ahead. Regarding Game Benchmarks, they are tested in very low resolution to reduce the GPU dependencies. At 1080P or higher, in most games, they'll perform same, in facts some cases FX-4300 has higher edge.

Same here bro.. unlike you i did have made about 1500 units of assembled systems.. but it depends upon usage..
If the user is working on only MS office and playing media then it doesn't require that much power..
But if you are a gamer or you are working as a graphic designer or an animator or doing video editing/rendering then adequate power is required for the system components to perform better..
I also made a couple of systems with good power supply with the help of THING DIGIT FORUM and I AM VERY THANKFUL TO ALL for spreading some knowledge and some facts about the system which i was unaware about.. :doublethumb: :high5:

There is no point of buying a dual core Processor by spending 6.5K. For gaming, i3 is still acceptable but for CPU intensive tasks, FX-4300 is better.

you may like to take another look at this
*www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/700?vs=677

specially javascript bench, photoshop retouch, web development (all as per op's requirements)

and to top it up 55w of i3 vs 95w tdp of 4300

^^ Javascript performance benchmark is not java developement...they are differnt :)
^^ For running Database like Oracle Server or Microsoft SQL Server, they are already multi-threaded in nature and use 4 Cores of FX-4300 very efficiently. I have tested couple of processors in Oracle 11G R2 and talking from my personal experience. Regarding Phtoshop, there is only one Benchmark available, there are other tests too which can use multi-core processors.

my dad is not in favour of AMD, so i think i will have 2 stick with Intel and I have got limited options with intel suggested by u guys :

GIGABYTE GA H61M-S1 2.5k
i3-3220 6.5k
gskill ripjaws X 1x4GB 1600mhz cl9 1.5v ddr3 ram 2.5k
generic smps 0.5k (or if you need cabinet too then buy any cabinet with smps ~1k)

-------------------------------------------

what if i replace corsair PSU with
Antec BP300 Gaming PSU @ 1.7K

P.S.
I am planning to sell my machine, current config -
Celeron - 2GB DDR1 - 80GB HDD

tell him that x64 was invented by AMD so he can have some faith in them.

As your requirements a quad core system will be very handy. Cause in near future if start using VMWare of similar VM software these extra cores will become very handy.
JVM and any newer DB engines, any newer web servers are very much multithreaded

I know but my father is in H/W business for around 17 yrs and that is the hardest and the only problem to convince him for a machine, he doesn't feel to upgrade to AMD, idk why :cry:
