these two are the only laptop that offers 3yr warranty:
HP 4445S ProBook & Dell Vostro 2420.

unless your cousin needs better graphics, USB 3.0, aluminium body and a slightly light weight, go with the Dell. the HP lacks power but makes up in secondary feature but the pricetag is little bit high.

No need of graphic performance. Just general typing work.

slowdown in multitasking use. the pentium is of the same league. underclocked. better go for one of the normal clocked processor. even PDC will do fine.

my friend has G580 (old model) and it is slim. price:spec ratio is really high. go with it. i don't know about lenovo's extended warranty offer but they had some free 3yr extended warranty. maybe for students.

I called the Lenovo CC. They were not specifically telling me about the extension of warranty. They said it all depends on the service centre of your locality. Ask to them. I called them they were not responding. Seriously, Lenovo CC is much worse than hp, apple and dell's. :?

Sam i locally checked with hp showroom here. The dealer wasnt sure about its commercial availability(probook) .He said he needs to check but he quoted me 32k which was a downer for me.

Are there any models upto 33-34k range in new setup or i need to wait abit and let the haswell one to get here for all this models to get a bit cheaper?

yah the probook is overpriced locally. i got mine for 32k when flipkart had it for 30. won't ship to my place. it lacks power but makes it up in features and build but 32k is absolute no go when haswell is a few month away from local availability.

wait for haswell. even the midrange GT3 graphics based laptops should give all the 7670M based laptops a run for its money. and its already known processor power will get a good 10-15% bump so its kind of a win-win situation for those who can wait.

 someone told me lenovo A.S.S is not the best. now i know their CC is of the same league. what local service center has to do with extended warranty.

The first priority in laptop is to have 3 years onsite warranty. Tell me which model should he go for. Maximum budget is 30k (including 3 years warranty).

How is the processor and battery life of your HP 4445S ProBook ?

How is the processor and battery life of your HP 4445S ProBook ?

for day to day use the processing power is sufficient. can run multiple apps without any sort of slowdown but one major drawback is the response time which is high. anyone who have used intel processor will feel it almost immediately. battery backup is 3-4hrs under web browsing (usb dongle). under low brightness and light use, can be stretched to 7hrs. takes 1.5hrs to charge the laptop fully.

Tell me more about the response time issue. Does that can be faced in normal typing work in MS Word?

no. only when launching softwares (libreoffice, picasa) that loads a few files into ram before launching takes a lot of time. no response problem once it loads up but only the launch time is long. i am using 64bit windows 8 with 2GB ram so free ram is less than 500MB after opening Chrome (512MB dedicated to GPU). moreover using powersaver mode. to me it looks like a combined effect of less ram & powersaver mode. 32bit OS should fix it.
