Hello
I wanted a phone with a large display, a front facing camera and a very easy to use UI for my Grandfather (Who is now 70). My budget was 10K.
I have short listed(and with your help want to finalize too! :) ) on the Micromax Canvas 2 A110!
So now I need to know how can I customize or get a 3RD party UI to run over the one this phone already has.
This is what I want in the UI:
A home screen with a few large icons which include: Skype, Calling, Flashlight torch
A Lock screen with a large Analog clock

AAANDD will the UI be stable?
How can I do that?
A buying related question: How is Micromax's after sales service? And is the phone durable? Will it last long enough?
Please help me out!
Thanks! :D

Try Launcher7 for big, easy-to-access icons on the home screen.

Try MagicLocker with this theme for an analog clock on the lockscreen. :)

As for the remaining stuff, others know better than me.

Get Lumia 520 instead..
Fits everything you require
Large screen, Large Buttons, Nokia warranty, Good build etc

For real
Seller warranty < MMX Warranty
Because Seller warranty doesnt exist

Its UI isnt customizable so Im worried if he doesnt get used to it Ill be stuck with it :/
Not much that you can do with a Windows Phone anyways :(
Neither does it have a front Cam and and flash for a torch :(
Can anyone confirm hows the warranty of MMX?
Cuz I do live in Chandigarh, so finding a service center shouldn't be a problem :/

^do you think using skype is important for a person who cant even use native android UI at all because of Old age ?
No flash, that is a downside.. Agreed..

PS: MMX warranty is horribly bad according to most.. although I have mixed feelings about their warranty

Yeah, I wanted a front facing camera so that he can receive skype calls from my aunt(Her Daughter) who lives abroad.

Those Canvas phones look REALLLY REALLLY REALLY good and fit my requirements. The only downside is the warranty thing :(
So Im open to suggestions!
Any phone thats gonna launch soon and may fit my requirements?

Lumia 620 has front-facing camera, with all the bells-and-whistles of Lumia 520, but with the budget of ~14k along with Nokia's warranty + lots of service centres.

Oh. So exactly how customizable is Windows 8 UI?
Can I just delete all the Social etc apps and keep 6/8 on the home screen itself?
And can I edit their text and stuff?
Annnnnnd Can I somehow get an Anolog Clock on the lock screen?
:|
Please help!

android (any new OS) can be tricky for people who don't have interest, time to learn the new OS. but IMO its easier to navigate and use than iOS once u get used to it. windows 7 launcher is perfect for your grandfather. another one is big launcher.. widgets are useful but confusing for many people. even though there are tons of apps in play store but not people hardly use more than 5-6 apps. just put those apps in the home screen and your grandfather is good to go. I recently bought a galaxy grand for my father who has never used a smartphone before. He still keeps his sim card on his old phone and carries the grand to get used to it. It's been nearly 2 weeks and he is still carrying his old phone. For man people simplicity is more useful than features.

WP's Digital clock itself BIG enough for all ages. (Why you need analog specifically - There should be some apps in Windowsstore to solve the purpose).
Moreover, we can resize the tiles by holding the finger above the tile.

Not sure about uninstalling SOCIAL APPS, but you can remove it from the home screen i guess. <--- Haven't tried this.

Launcher or other third party customization on top of android UI may look great but most of the times it will be laggy and cause unexpected crashes, thereby causing confusion to your grand pa. my personal opinion..
At least with Windows Phone, u can achieve a stable OS. Pin only the required apps to the start menu.
