Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I need help urgently.
For the past few days my pc stopped to boot properly. whenever I press the power button to switch it on it displays the starting windows logo but nothing happens after that..but when i press the power button again it boots normally. Same thing happens when i hibernate my system.
I thought that it must be a windows problem so I formatted my PC today and installed windows again on a new HDD. but the problem is still there. It was working fine for the past few years without any problem. But suddenly it started. I didn't installed any new software or hardware recntly.
My config is:
AMD Phenom II X4
Gigabyte Motherboard
6 gb RAM DDR2
ASUS sound card installed
2x1 TB HDD
1x2 TB HDD
Corsair 600 W PSU
Windows 7 Ultimate

Run it in safe mode. When the OS boots, look at all the drivers loading and see if it freezes anywhere. Give the name of the .sys file where it freezes.

the psu is corsair, i dont think any corsair unit should be causing this sort of troubles

The trouble mentioned has some indication of the system not putting up with the initial draw of current at boot/return from power saving state. Hence the note about PSU. Some times things just freeze and the system will auto reboot as well.

Corsair units have also been on record giving high pitched sounds from the PSU box, although all else being up to the mark. :D

^^ ya helion is correct.
dont be so sure abt any PSU, even corsair.
I too had a similar probs.:-D
reg PSU, try dis out..
remove the SATA power cable frm PSU to HDD & join another one, an extra frm da PSU to HDD. now check it.. restart ur PC atleast around 5 times to be sure.

I've tried pulling out RAMs and cleaning and all...
Unplugged all wires then plugged them again but to no avail..
The pSU is just an year old and I dont think that it should be the culprit..
How to clear the CMOS?

Is there any adverse effect of resetting the CMOS...
I mean if i short the reset jumper then would it create any furthur problems if not correct the current one?

Earlier under the system tab the RAM was shown as 3.5 GB as usable out of 6 (not exactly)
Now after reinstalling windows after format it shows only 2.75 GB usbale out of 6 so the system also goes out of memory sometimes...what could be the problem..please suggest somethng asap..thanks

Resetting CMOS doesn't have any ill effects. Reseat the battery after 5 min that's all. You will need to get into BIOS and make sure all is okay and save & exit.

Available memory also depends on whether your OS is 32 bit or 64 bit.

it was a sheer case of neglegence..problem was solved as soon as i unplugged a multi card reader which was plugged to one of the USB ports. Now everything is back to normal smooth booting and waking up from hibernation...
thanks to all for your help and suggestions...
