What The.... !!!
Guys

I have made the following purchase(haven't yet got the final bill, so haven't posted the price)

AthlonII X4 635

Gigabyte 785GMT-US2H

Corsair VS 1333MHz 2X2GB DDR3

Corsair VX 450

Samsung Myst Eco B2030

Seagate 500GB 7200.12

LG DVD writer

MSI Hawk HD5770(still to buy, waiting for availability)

now i am having some problems

1)the Samsung monitor comes only with VGA cable included

how much would a new one cost?

is Dvi cable included in Graphics card(yet to buy) package contents?

2)the bundled Norton Antivirus is too bloated, please suggest free alternatives

Like Avast(Free),Bitdefender(have legal license),AVG9(legal license)

3)the browsing and surfing speed has decreased, compared to the speeds i got in my previous 6 yr old PC

4)how to setup a new network connection(BSNL broadband)properly in Windows 7?

5)the power cord bundled with VX450 is refusing to get into my APC 650VA ups

the contacts are flat and thick unlike normal plugd which are rounded and thinner

is it possible to use an adapter?

Hey funkysaurav...congrats on the rig.

Avast is good as a main a/v. Use separate scanners like Malwarebytes and Spybot search &destroy in case the main a/v misses something.

About your surfing speeds.....that's odd.

Congrats on your new machine. I ordered a similar config from Kolkata last week for a client. These are what I got, along with prices for each item (but I had to pay extra for shipping as I'm not from Kolkata):

Athlon II X4 635 - 4850/-
Biostar A785GE - 3250/-
Kingston DDR2/800 2GB - 2250/-
Seagate 7200.12 500GB - 1850/-
LG DVD-R/W - 950/-
XFX HD 5670/1GB - 6300/-
iBall cabinet with PSU - 1400/-
Samsung B2030 - 6450/-
---------------------------------
Total - 27,300/-
+ 4% VAT - 1092/-
Grand total - 28,392/-

now i am having some problems

1)the Samsung monitor comes only with VGA cable included

how much would a new one cost?
You can use a DVI-VGA adaptor. Price ~100/-. A DVI cable should be around 200/-.

is Dvi cable included in Graphics card(yet to buy) package contents?
Normally not.

2)the bundled Norton Antivirus is too bloated, please suggest free alternatives

Like Avast(Free),Bitdefender(have legal license),AVG9(legal license)
I never use Norton AV and I never recommend it to my clients. Not only is it bloated, but it tries to take control of everything, often even after it's uninstalled. I use Avira free AV and am quite satisfied with it. Though it's good to keep in mind that no AV is perfect.

3)the browsing and surfing speed has decreased, compared to the speeds i got in my previous 6 yr old PC
This is really something that has to be diagnosed on the spot, though it can't be due to your hardware.

4)how to setup a new network connection(BSNL broadband)properly in Windows 7?
I'm not using Win 7. I'll leave this to those who do.

5)the power cord bundled with VX450 is refusing to get into my APC 650VA ups

the contacts are flat and thick unlike normal plugd which are rounded and thinner

is it possible to use an adapter?
Yes, adapters are available. Probably even from your neighbourhood electrical shop. Or you could just buy another power cord with the usual Indian pins.

butt my dl speeds are being seriously throttled by the Windows 7 firewall i think
i am getting a measly speed of 22KBps when i should get 52+KBps(UL750 plan)

i checked the NAT/Firewall test in Vuze and came with following result

Have you tried Speedtest.net? It's at Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
It's a popular site for testing your actual connection speed. However, the actual d/l and u/l speeds vary greatly with the server. I find that I usually get faster speeds with servers in Europe and the US than with Indian servers.

congrats buddy. finally you2 got your rig.

well for antivirus, all you need is Avast/Avira (running on my & sisters PC respectively along with a firewall (turn off that nonsense windows firewall) & if you need a antimalware, get Emsisoft Antimalware (turn the freeware mode on).

about the speed, when in Win XP, i used to get 15-20Kbps with my GPRS. now 5-10kbps. Win7 is worst when it comes to download. even my friend having same problem.

just go through the below links carefully....I am not sure but the information given there might be useful in ur scenario....

Port problem please help.... Nat Error (port is probably closed)..
problem with my azureus - P2Plife Forums

Or alternatively u may read the below information:
If it is a yellow smiley, then the torrent is still working, it's just telling you that it "could be better".

You need to open up your firewall software and add the Vuze program into the "trusted applications" section. Doing this will allow Vuze to open a port to itself through the firewall

How to do this will depend on the firewall you are using. If you are using Windows firewall on Windows XP, go to Start> ControlPanel> Windows Firewall> click the Exceptions tab> click ADD.

On the "Add a Program" screen you will scroll to either Azureus, or Vuze, (depending on if they've changed the name recently), and if it is not in the list, browse to it in the Program Files folder (mine is C:\ Program Files\ Azureus\ Azureus.exe). Once you have found the right one, click ok, and ok.

Now you should restart Vuze. If your internet router supports UPnP passthrough (all modern ones do), then you shouldn't have to do anything else. If it doesn't, then you may have to go into your router and statically assign a port to your computer for Vuze to use. This may be the case if you don't have any green smileys in about 10 minutes on some well-seeded torrents.

If you end up having to do this port forwarding step, you want to forward port 18320 (the default port for Vuze if I remember correctly) using both TCP and UDP to the IP address of your computer. How to do this depends on the router.

And by the way, changing Vuze from the default port was a clever trick 10 years ago, but it doesn't fool any ISPs these days. They see your torrents and what-not by statistical analysis instead of relying on services to be tagged to specific ports.

Additional info:
new edit:
In Vista, after you get to control panel, click "Calssic View" in the left column, then double click the "windows firewall" icon> click "change settings"> click the Exceptions tab> continue on from above instructions at this point, it is the same.

Remember, this is only valid if you are using the Windows Firewall. If you are using Kaspersky, or McAfee, or other antivirus suites, many of them come with a firewall that replaces the Windows one.

If this is your Belkin router:
*catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPa…
Then it does support UPnP passthrough, so you don't have to mess with port forwarding.

I know u are using Windows 7. I dont know how to add "Vuze" to the list of exceptions in Windows 7 firewall...But if u do so, ur problem may get solved.Good luck!!!

Try uTorrent once. If it doesn't help, try what I wrote in the other thread.

Process for setting up internet connection is almost same in XP & 7

And if you say Win 7 is bad, Initially when I got unlimited connection, due to a problem with antivirus I had to use Win 7 to download and the speeds were always steadier than they ever were in XP. But have to use XP now coz I don't have gfx card

@Halo
many thanks buddy for your detailed description
i am trying to follow your steps now

@all
i tried to exclude the program Vuze and its associations from being blocked by the windows firewall
by putting them in the exceptions/trusted list,
but that didn't work
so i had to turn off the entire windows firewall :(
do i have to install 3rd party firewall?
i have installed Avast! Free Antivirus to cover my ass for now:-D
now i am getting proper speeds:)
will post speedtest results today!

anyway here's my CPUZ validation
strangely my proccy is working at 800 MHz
CPU-Z Validator 3.1

@Sam@Jas@piyush
trying Avast! now
will download Symantec endpoint security SBE
which strangely enough doesn't ask for registration
and gives free updates :)
so legal AFAIK

@coolbuddy
try what I wrote in the other thread.
what other thread?
there's no post in the duplicated thread!
Please post it here buddy!:)
i am tooo laaazyyy:-D

guys
i have shifted to my new desktop today
and please forgive my noobishness
i can't seem to get the computer to connect to the Internet properly
i am using UL750
earlier i used to get 52KBps-59KBps
now the speed has taken a huge hit while surfing :(
(digit forum takes a minute to open up)
could the bundled norton antivirus be the problem?

The reply is below that
If you still have the old desktop, could you once connect the internet through the old machine to determine if the PC is at fault or the connection. If you are using USB, try connecting through ethernet

Bitdefender Antivirus
above link maybe helpful to you, best price I have seen for Bitdefender, it is one year

any problem with BSNL ---> you should know contact number of BSNL exchange for your location and the IVRS number for lodging complaint to BSNL. Put a complaint and then call the exchange. The complaint number goes automatically to the exchange. You can also put the complaint online if internet is working.

about downloading through torrent this is interesting.
I have tried bitcomet bitlord and utorrent.
Many a times I have found for a particular network(at home this is your own broadband but different places it is not the same) bitlord and bitcomet are not working but utorent is. In some other places I found utorrent not working but bitlord working. You need to test with different torrent clients to work it

Cool Buddy

Wise Old Owl
And one thing I wanted to write, You don't need to restart the download if you change the client. Just set uTorrent to download at the same location and it will automatically recheck the file and use the part that has already been downloaded. Or you can also force recheck manually by stopping the torrent.

What The.... !!!
i am using a combo of Avast! Free Antivirus, ZoneAlarm Firewall and MalwareBytes
hope this combo keeps my pc safe now
The the downloading and browsing speeds are back to normal now, after disabling Windows Firewall

now a completely different problem
my cpu vcore is automatically changing between 1.12v and 1.47v
is this normal?
the vcore shoots up when i am playing Far Cry(old one)
or unzipping files, using Malwarebytes,Avast, etc to check files etc
see the two pics below

this is at idle(downloading torrents for 2 Hrs
*i945.photobucket.com/albums/ad298/funkysourav/Hwmonitorpro2.jpg

and this is while unzipping 5GB of data using 7z filemanager and running Avast antivirus on 49Gb of data at same time

which router are you using and which mode are you in ? PPPoE or Bridge mode ?
you might need to do port forwarding.

turning off Windows Firewall is a bad idea. i am also on BSNL UL 750 and using windows 7 , and using Microsoft Security Essentials. no other AV/Malware remover. and my PC is secured. Last week i scanned my lappy with KIS and Norton and not even a single virus issue was found. :)
so my final verdict is MSE is best and free. direct from MS :)

@talktoanil
i am not using a router
just The white body and blue face Nokia Siemens Modem given by BSNL
it is in PPPoE mode

how to do port forwarding?

windows firewall is good but is restricting my D/L speeds
so i installed aVast! Free AV and Zone Alarm Firewall and Malwarebytes combo
and now i am getting a speed of 52-55KBps average

but i don't have the vanilla copy of Windows 7
only the :cough::cough: version :-D
Microsoft security essentials won't install here
