I am planning to buy a Samsung 22 inch monitor (2233 SW Model).I has some query:-
1) Can my XFX 8600 GT 256 DDR3 can handle it for playing games/movies in native resolution?
2) If not please recommend me a good graphics card my budget is Rs10k.
3) I have a 1 year old Cooler master 500W smps. Will it be ok to power the new graphics card?:grin::grin::)):smile::cool::-D

XFX 8600 GT 256 DDR3 -
Full HD Video Playback - Yes
Full HD Gaming - No.

For Full HD Gaming get Sapphire/XFX/MSI(Hawk) 5770 GDDR5 1 GB GPU @ 9.5K (10K for MSI HAWK version)

But seeing ur PSU which is I guess Cooler Master Extreme Series, U should opt either for a PSU change (Change to Corsair VX450) or a little lower end GPU XFX ATI 5670 1 GB ~6K

please first change tour psu if its from cooler master extreme power series(which i guess it surely is)..... get corsair vx450 @ 3.7k.... then you may get a MSI HD5750 1GB GDDR5 @ 8.2K or Sapphire HD5670 512MB GDDR5 Artic Cooling @ 5.3k... but i suggest you to first change your psu to corsair vx450 and then get MSI HD5770 HAWX 1GB GDDR5 @ 10.2k after you have got enough money.... if you don't change your psu then you most probably will have to buy a new rig.... :-|

Yup.. it will.. I'm using Cooler Master Extreme Plus 500W on

AMD Phenom II 720 BE
4 GB DDR2 RAM
1 TB Samsung HDD
XFX 4870 1 GB GDDR5
Biostar TA 790 GX Mobo..

without any problem since last 8 months.. go ahead.. If it can handle 4870 then it can definitely handle 5770 as it is built on a smaller (40nm) architecture and uses much less power than 4870..

Moreover, my friend is running this on Cooler Master Extreme Plus 500 W

AMD Phenom II 940 BE @ 3.4 GHz
4 GB DDR2 RAM
1 TB Samsung & 250 GB WD SATA II HDDs
Sony DVD Writer
Cooler Master HAF 922 cabinet

In the scroching 40+ temperature of Gurgaon since last 1 year without any problem

There is unnecessary fuss over the PSU. cooler master PSU is good one and it will definitely handle a graphics card. I don't think people need to waste so much money on PSUs. A 500W cooler master PSU will definitely be able to handle HD 5770. And if it doesn't, you can definitely change the PSU later. It won't get fried at once, it will show unstability like system restarts, game crashes etc.

me not the only person criticizing this psu.... a number of people and not only on TD forum but on other forums too are criticizing this psu because of one question mark that it isn't able to keep up power hungry hardware.... myself own 1(cm extreme power plus 500w)....

psu is the heart of the rig.... why buy it with risk factor.... cm extreme power plus 500w max efficiency is 70% and its non-pfc.... it supplies around 350 w.... suppose your rig draws a steady 350 w... it means your psu is being stretched at its limit.... its being used at its max efficiency.... and thats a really bad thing.... it would mean that some of your components may not be getting the required power to do their job and it would ultimately lead to shortening the life of your components....

@hellknight, you & your friend maybe lucky till now. that your PC safe. also Extreme Power mostly blows or gets damaged when stretched, i.e. when someone adds a card & tries some heavy games. also these PSU doesn't come with a money back guarantee that it'll get damage. half or more gets damaged & few even loose their system. OP can go & but a Extreme Power, however if he looses his PSU (maybe his system too) we'll have to take the blame for it. so better recommend him a tested & trusted PSU. not one thats most controversial.

@Cool Buddy, yes Cooler Master PSU are good except this particular series. they even launched a new replaced series. Extreme Power Plus but it was of little help as it too was plagued by same problem. also rahul is right. problem doesn't come knocking. you'll know something wrong, only after you fry your motherboard & the proccy. also other things thats getting power from the notorious PSU.

also by later he mayn't have any PC. forget PSU. why keep changing PSU when he can get a good PSU by paying a few couple of hundred bucks more & that will keep his system stable. even in hot Indian weather.

@rahul, good explanation yaar.

@amartya87, for card, get any HD5770. for PSU, get VX450. CX400W will suffice too. but regarding future upgrade, VX450W suites best. VX550W should be considered only if u got the extra money or got plans to buy HD5850 or something like that.

modular PSU's sata cables & the 6 pin & few other cables can be detached if not in use. also it depends on that particular PSU what wries can be detached. cause in some PSU the sata cables & IDE cables comes prefixed. only the 6pin & 8 pin cords can be made loose. not very useful until & unless the user can't tolerate even a single loose cable inside his rig.

@amartya87
Corsair VX550 is a good choice....keep with it & you won't have to change your SMPS for over 5yrs with new upgrades!
also to know about modular SMPS just google!
Also googleing for CM extrem power PSU will get you good result of fried PSUs!

all i can tell is my CM E P Plus 500 PSU is doing ok with my rig with following config for last 1.5 yrs:
C2D 8400E
XFX8800GT
Creative extreme gamer S card.
a pinnacle tv card, thats slotted but i dont view tv on it.
2XHDD, 1 DVD W

monitor 19" : 1440X900

my comp runs ~10 hrs everyday , including sometimes when i leave the comp running for 2-3 days running a MMORPG that i play ....

anyways, can someone explain how the psu goes off? does it blasts frying everything up or just it stops working like that ? :???:

also i donno where u got the idea that psu outputs 350W caz its 500W pcu ........ specification clearly says - max OP is 500W @70% efficiency.

i draws whatever current necessary for that. spec says 6amps @ 230V.....(thats a lot)

^Agreed..my computer runs 24x7.. it only get switched off when there is no electricity which is a rare case here in Himachal...
@Sam.Shab & @Rahul.007 I've been waiting since last 8 months to see the PSU blow off.. Even overclocked my graphics card, added another HDD, 2 Optical Drive, ran benchmarks such as 3D Mark Vantage & 3D Mark 06, but the PSU was till running nicely.. I don't think that there is any problem with the CM Extreme Plus PSUs.. there would've been some problem in earlier days, but now, I think that they are absolutely fine...

Regarding games :-

Battlefield Badcompany 2 @ Full HD
Crysis Warhead @ 1680x1050
COD MW2 @ Full HD

Moreover, Linux kernel compilation when the CPU was running @ 3.7 GHz..

I ran all the test, the PSU was rock stable.. Now, if you guys can tell me a real person who got his CM Extreme PSU blown up, then I'll think about that..

I don't disagree that getting a good PSU is a good idea, but why waste money when someone already has a good PSU. Yes, it might be a bit risky, but I've never heard someone's machine get damaged due to a PSU failure, not even on the forum. It's all just a guess that this & that could happen if the PSU fails. Here is what happens if a PSU fails:
I had a frontech PSU which came bundled with my cabinet. I let it be because I still do not have a gfx card. The PSU fan stopped working and the SMPS got real hot. I didn't know till I smelt the smoke coming out of the SMPS. even at that moment my machine was on. I immediately switched it off. Even though the PSU was burnt, my machine was not affected, everything's working fine even after that.
Still if one has the budget one should buy a good PSU, at least, don't blame me later if something does happen.

LISTEN GUYS!!!!!

I've been reading this thread for a while and saw that there is kinda argument going on here on CM extreme series

look it totally depends upon your luck....yeah i said luck!!
I've heard many cases of blowing up of graphic cards due to CM extreme
And I've seen so many cases of power hungry gfx card running all well

SO u see...it depends
also the location matters..i mean where r u staying
is the environment hot or cool enough to make things secure

Okay. Great.

All you guys which are recommending CM E series PSU, it is perfectly all right. Like wise the other lot (including me) are allowed to also not recommend it -- in the sense, if someone ask me which PSU, I will say Tagan/Corsair/Silverstone/FSP, but skip out the CM E series, cause my views are drastically different. If you all managed to run it successfully. Well done. All are open to recommend and suggest.

^^thats right
I mean whats the reason of taking risks
by just adding around 1k to the price of CM X series anyone can get a LOT better stuff and its SAFE too
