Friends one of my friend is going in to buy a new laptop and asked me to help him out. He had in mind a Sony Vaio Laptop . Model Number VPCCW16FG/P.
Costing around 58k ( as mentioned in the website)
I wanted feedback from you all about this laptop n in general how good or bad vaio laptops are...... It belongs to the CW series and has the following config:
14 inch
Intel core 2 duo P8700 @ 2.53Ghz
4 GB DDR3
320 GB @ 5400 rpm
Nvidia GT230 512mb GDDR3
rest all standard stuffs
and yeah windows 7 home premium......:)

Waiting for replies and feedback

60k for a model that comes with a mediocre GT230M card is not a great buy given that Dell is now shipping core i7-720QM based Studio 15 laptop for 2k-3k more. Here is the specs:

1) Core i7-720QM 1.6GHz 6MB Cache
2) Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
3) 15.6 " 720p WLED (1366x768) Display (pay 2k extra for FullHD)
4) 4GB Dual-channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 2GB)
5) 500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
6) 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
7) Integrated CREATIVE Sound Blaster(R) X-Fi MB Audio Software Solution

When your friend is ready to put some 60k, why not become the first ones to own core i7 based laptops in India :)

Thanks for the reply. He is considering that one for sure but then as per some online googling we found that GT230M was far powerful than the one Dell has to offer. So he wanted to know about the sony build quality and all........
Moreover another option in apple macbook but then it comes at a price of 57k and seriously low specs

yes. the GPU is a bit weaker but is compensated by blazing fast quad core processor based on Nehalem core which is right now at the top and also by blazing fast memory thanks to the integrated DDR3 memory controller.

compare it with *www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9600M-GT.9449.0.html on which GT230M is based on afaik. in the end, the difference in fps may be around 2 to 5 fps and this will be corrected by the much faster quad core core i7 on Studio.

And when you start doing multitasking and AV convertion, studio with core i7 will be in a different league.

Isn't this enough for gaming on a laptop?

Where do you get gigabyte notebooks?????
And yeah i want ome feedback on Vaio in general
battery life, warranty coverage, customer care etc

In a recent study, Sony came behind ASUS in second place in terms of durability and life with most of their laptops giving 2 to 3 years trouble free life.

sony's warranty shouldn't be a problem and the battery life depends on what battery you pick. For longer battery life, pick a 9 cell battery.

In customer care, nothing beats Apple and Dell but Sony is not too far behind.
