My friend wants to upgrade from his onboard multimedia solution . So he wants to buy a GPU as well as Sound card . His gaming requirements are Low to med level quality with average performance for occasional gaming but at least it should be officially supported ( even if it can't give high performance ) by the latest titles.

while for sound he actually want to upgrade from 2.1 to 5.1 channel for occasional movie and gaming purpose not for nice sound experience only for up gradation.

I don't have knowledge about sound card but for GPU i was suggesting rad 4670 or gfor 9500gt . Please comment

oh sorry overall budget is Rs 6 to 6.5 k but it would be nice if everything can be wind up within 6k.

Corsair CX400W @ 3.2k
CoolerMaster Real Power Pro @ 3.5k (Make sure you buy real power not extreme power)

for Low / Med game requirement 1 gb is waste.

actually why i am suggesting him that is that the difference ia about 600 to 800 bucks ,better investing so that the shell life of Card is long

grphics card n videa xfx 8400gs willl be good and buy a basic creative sound card
:shock::-D

Dude get the Sapphire HD4670 512MB GDDR3 @ 4.5k . 1GB isn't going to help you(except for GTA4:twisted:)

For Soundcard,

Creative SoundBlaster Audigy Value @ 1.8k

Total - 6.3k .(Just 300 bucks more than your budget:-D)

this config is great ,but is there any other options in sound card of lower budget . I heard (may be rumors ) that creative offer good cards in 1.3 to 1.5k range also

Also just for general knowledge is this true that Sound cards do not function properly in Vista while it will run nicely in XP ?

Also his mobo support 5.1 channel (he has not tested it ) ,it is realtek hd audio or something like that .So he should buy the card or not . He definitely will buy 5.1 speakers set in near future in next month or so

Dude you did not mention which motherboard your friend has , if it has onboard 2.1 sound then i guess it must be old , also mention his PSU . If it has an pci-e and a free pci slot then in my opinion you can get palit 9600gt 512 mb for around 4.4k and creative audigy for around 2k . If you want to save some money then ati 4670 is good . You can also wait for Ati 5670 which will be around same price and supports dx11 .

I don't know about the psu but i the cabinet is of Orginal HP manufactured ,while mobo is P5B Deluxe version i think

Palit cards are not available in raipur .Only XFX cards are available . I searched for 2 days to find 1 retailer who used to stock Sapphire cards

Also dude i am trying to limit the sound card range in 1.5 to 1.7k please. However what will be the difference between a card of 1.5k and of 2k considering that he needs it for occasional surround gaming .Also if say (assuming) his mobo has 5.1 channel support should he go for sound card in this range or is it waste of money please comment ?I know by my own experience that many games just do not recognize onboard Multichannel solution

Common yaar 5870 has been released a few weeks back only ,i think 5670 will take atleast 5 months to come out
