Laptop and maya???

you gotta be seriously kidding. The only good option is to get from USA. In India, it's nearly impossible to get such lappy inside 60k.

certainly no for maya and graphics work. He will get terrific desktop with a fullHD 24" display for that price.

maya for 60k is possible, but the rendering time will be hiking mount Olympus. IMO, if you are on the move, then you don't need maya. If you need maya, you'll never be on the move.

I said i don't want to be on the move. I did a search and found intel 4 ghz processors can do well if supported by ram. Getting from usa is not an issue except for the customs duty need someone coming from usa. I find the hp dv7t quite charming :) is it worth?

If you want to do Maya, you need a CRT or S-IPA panel LCD with a Quadro/FireGL series cards and a quad core processor.

Of course you can do Maya on a laptop but if a rendering takes 15 minutes on 60k lappy, it will take 2-3 minutes for similarly priced desktop.

With 65k, you can get a core i7 rig which can make Maya look like ordinary software. :)

So i should totally drop the thoughts about the laptop and go desktop? Is there no other alternative if i raise my budget

Look at Alienware M17x and Area 51 series laptops. You can customize these to have dual graphics quad core processor and you can get it inside 70k.

check this:

For 1900$, you get:

Core2Duo P8700 (2.53GHz)
GTX260M 1GB (add another 300$ for dual 260M in SLI)
17" display
4GB DDR3 1066MHz
500gig hdd

As you said you are not on the move, I would solidly recommend you going to a core i7/hd4570 or phenom II X4/gtx285 based desktop CPU. Which can run some dutches in maya. Going to lappy for maya is not a good idea.

i think this machine ur getting 1 gb of 4650 graphics card
with 4 gb of ram
so the cost is 46000 only
go for it
the laptop is very good

Nothing other than settling with a Desktop. And IMO, getting a lappy for Maya kinda stuff is not even a good idea to think about.
These softwares even kill a PC, then how'd we expect a lappy to work great with these apps.

Or else go for what desiibond suggests. That looks cool and a great buy, if you're still sure that a Laptop can be used for Maya rather than a PC.

Are you serious dude? A 4650 is nothing but a piece of sh1t. It even struggles to play games which were one or two years older at high settings.

No gaming graphics cards if you wanna go for 3D modeling. Go for Quadro of FireGL cards. They are totally optimized for modeling and suits your needs perfectly.

If you are totally serious about 3D and Maya, Go for Core i7/Quadro rig. I wouldn't recommend Phenom II or Geforce or Radeon here for you.

In case of laptops, these are pretty hard to find in USA and impossible to find here in India.

ok i found this 1

ASUS F50SV
CPU Type - Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0G
Memory Size - 4GB
Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce GT 120M
Video Memory - 1024MB
CPU Speed - T6400(2.00GHz)
CPU FSB = 800MHz
CPU L2 Cache - 2MB
Resolution - 1366 x 768

It'll cost approx - 45k Rupeez, is it worth?

i also saw a FIRE GL card, its a bomb lol, almost costs a laptops price, 30k and add to that it only fits on a desktop!

^ that lappy is never gonna run maya at reasonable rendering time. Even nvidia quadro GFX cards and core 2 quad processors which are specifically designed for studio purposes are not crunching maya. Do you think that T6400 which will be running at 2.0Ghz will be able to feed maya?

I'm asking a question to clarify my self,

What is the purpose of maya to you? I mean are you a professional designer or student or just wanna run it for fun. If your answer is the later, then go for lappy. If your answer is 1 and 2 then go for desktop. I can't say more than this.
