DDR3 Memory Scaling - Which clockspeed is right for you ?

This is a must read for all those who are considering buying different memory speeds for their new DDR3 motherboards. Compared are 800MHz, 1066MHz, 1333MHz and 1600MHz.

Highly interesting results.

DRAM prices have come down in the past few months, making capacities of 4, 6, or 8 GB very affordable. You can get 4 x 2 GB DDR2 memory kits starting at only $80, and even DDR3 is no longer unattainably pricey. However, high-speed memory is still considerably more expensive, and memory vendors want you to believe that DDR3-1600 and faster is what you need, despite the fact that neither Intel's Core i7 or AMD's Phenom II X4 officially support those data rates. We wanted to look into this, and so we ran plenty of benchmarks on an AMD Phenom II X4 955, with all possible memory speeds and different timings.

Wonderful! Just proves how useless these marketing numerals can be! Buying a 1300W SMPS is the "in" thing right now for any core i7 aspirant, even though it is unneeded. Good articles. Very Informative!

Yeah. Rs. 1.8K DDR3-1333 2GB modules attract me like nothing else right now :D

What would you do with them.
You can't use them with Core i7 (high voltage, more that 1.65 around 1.9 i think) and their latency makes them unusable for AM3 setup and the performance gain is just not there if you think about using them with X48.
What is the use of such modules??:?:

Example:

THe boost in performance from CL5 DDR2 667MHz and CL5 DDR2 800MHz was a mere 4%
The boost from CL5 DDR2 800MHz to CL4 DDR2 800Mhz was an amazing 17%

well DDR2 optimization is to its peak, DDR3 prices have already started come down in range, so soo DDR3 will also get optimized, and IMO it wont take more than an year for DDR3 to become mainstream finally. Hardware R&D is amazingly giving quiet fast results :D

Anyways, you didn't answer my post about what you will do with the transcend DDR3 @1.8k??
A budget AM3 rig or a future Lynnfield rig ? :p

Good point there. What are prices for low latency ddr3-1333 2+2 kits ?

no idea^^ C7 is too bad for AMD.

That's y th best bet is G.Skill 4GB DDR2 800MHz CL 4-4-4-12 kit for 4k. THat's the best for an AMD platform.

What is your idea of a good DDR3 kit for AMD rig and also, what voltage kit it should be.
i7 doesn't like voltage over 1.65. Although, no such limitation is there with AMD IMC but there will be some range for optimum lifespan of both memory and IMC ??
