Lol 4 years. In an year you'd realize where your system stands amongst the developments around.
But it's the ideal upgrade under that budget. Only if you don't have quality psu, better buy 4670 for 5k than 9600gt. Otherwise you'd have to spend 2k on psu too, say coolermaster 390w. And I guess 2gb transcend sticks comes for 1.2k ??

Perfect. Buy it. Nothing wrong with it. And it will game well.
Just ensure that you get some good 9600GT.
Palit Sonic edition costs 5.5K now. Has great cooling.

And use money saved on a DECENT PSU.

Which PSU can i buy??
i currently have a 330W mercury power supply..

Which one will support my config very well??(and cheap too..)

Does this config necessarily require any cooling system ?????

corsair VX450 or coolermaster 500W PSU will be best for you, will keep full options for upgrades, this may cost up little good, if not these get powersafe or zebronics 500W PSU, but certainly a 500W PSU

and yup palit sonic 9600GT is the best buy for you.

also get a good cabinet. I would say coolermaster elite 330 costs 1.6K. you need to run your system for very long so buy quality and affordable parts.

with all these your total CPU cost will come around 20K

Oh ok.. thanks a lot..

i have two doubts..

1) Do i get any sort of PSU by default along with cabinet??
and what abt getting a 500w cabinet directly instead of buying psu and cabinet seperately??

2) i have a CRT monitor now... im running @ 1024*768
but its written that it can support upto 1280*1024..

but when i run @ higher resolutions the picture seems blurred
is this the drawback of my comp or monitor??
if i buy the graphic card can i support higher resolutions????

1)ya u will get a PSU with normal cabinets, but they r just for basic usage. For running grfx cards like 9600GT u will need quality PSU with gud power ratings. so u should spend at least 2k on a quality PSU. otherwise buy some other grfx cards with low power consumption.

2)you will need a grfx card to set higher resolutions. btw...wats you monitor?? 17" ?? every monitor will be having some native resolutions, such as 1152*864@75Hz for normal 17" flat monitors. display will be perfect at this res. but u can use 1280*1024 in gaming. for setting up native res. on-board grfx is just enuf.

-->and abt proxy is it future proof(for games, new os??) ....?

-->I'm not interested in changing my cab as mine is stylish(mercury elite..)
Will the Coolermaster 500W fit into my old cab and work perfectly without trouble?????:?:?

ya new PSU will fit in ur present cab.....btw v can't predict whether ur proccy can be future proof by the rate technology is advancing. anyway it will be safe for quite a gud time and perfect in ur budget range

Transcend's value RAM comes for Rs. 2500(for 2*2=4GB).
And Sparkle 9600GT comes for 5.5k.

Get Zebronics Krish @ 1k
&
CM 460W ExP @ 2.4k

You don't need E7200. E5200 is good enough. Performance improvement by spending 2K extra over E5200 to buy E7200 is less on gaming and hardly existant on non-gaming tasks.

Use the 2K extra on a CPU cooling solution for some overclocking if you ever feel the need to increase performance.

Oh is it..?? i thought E5200 would be outdated within some time.. and wont support any of the future games..!! so can i go with E5200 itself??

What abt my Current P4 proccy @ 3Ghz with HT wont it do good ??

wats the cooling solution ur talkin abt i'm not getting it..?????

Also,
Can i Go for DDR3 RAMs?? Instead of DDR2??
I want the max.performance with respect to gaming @ some 20k...???!!

well if E5200 which has been released very short time back is the best entry level proccy, if that gets outdated then so does E7200.

You cannot go for DDR3, >>they are expensive
>>mobos supporting DDR3 are expensive
>>G31 does not support DDR3.

If you wanna be more futureproof, check for mobo instead of proccy. Because mobo gives expansion option not proccy
You are already buying gfx card so we can suggest P35 mobos likes of MSI P35 Neo-F or Palit P35A in 4.2-4.5K. you can put upto 8GB RAM in it, can take much more load than G31 chipset

If you wanna run your proccy for very long you are adviced to go for good cooling, as of CPU cooler and vga cooler, thermal paste etc etc, intel stock cooler is said to be good(that is what I have learnt in my try to better my Pentium D based system).

P4 proccy @3GHz is quiet good proccy from the old list, and if you do not wanna go for new proccy + mobo you should mark. If the system is making more noise now. it gets hung etc etc. Above all what options do you have to increase the performace of the system, certainly increase RAM add a better gfx card and replace old CPU cooler to a new one.
But anyhow your system would not go above 2GB RAM in total, your mobo would not be good enough for high end gfx card, putting 9600GT will be bad idea of upgrade.

dealers will try to sell off not so good supplied PSU if you go for cabinet with PSU. and you get only 400W PSU, so it is always advisable to buy them separate.

As of your current config you are like
E5200 == 3.5K
Gigabyte G31 == 2.5K
4 GB RAM (2x2GB DDR2 800FSB) == 2.4K
Palit or Sparkle whichever you decide on 9600GT == 5.5K
Coolermaster Elite 330 == 1.6K (when I had checked the shopkeeper was trying to sell 390W PSU saying it comes with it default quoting me the price of 3.1K total, that was last year June)
Coolermaster 500W PSU - 2.7K
This is coming 18.2K gross + 4%VAT will make it 19K

using old cabinet removes 1.6K and makes available for Proccy and mobo, G31 is a micro ATX mobo which takes lesser space. if you buy a P35 chipset they would be ATX so not sure if they would fit in the old cabinet. 3 year back, there were not ATX cabinet.

acewin thanks for your long and useful reply..;)

ill take care of buying a decent 500W psu..:)

Now, what i want is max.performance in gaming,multimedia..
wat comb can i go for..??
A dual core proccy(e5200) and good mobo..
or..
A good C2D Proccy(like e4600,e7200etc..) and Not so good mobo..????

i want it to be future proof too..!!

If u compare with CPU charts, E5200 comes nxt in performance after E7200 and E4700.
Barely 5% less performance. But E5200 overclocks to 4GHz at stock, and peforms as good as a E8600 after OC. So it's an excellent deal.
