Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

Bethesda was at PAX East yesterday to show new gameplay footage from Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, the standalone prequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order.

You can watch Bethesda comment on and play through 20 minutes of the game starting at the 30:40 mark in the archived Twitch Stream above.

One new feature you'll notice is B.J. Blazkowicz's pipe that was shown in the reveal trailer. It will allow you to take down tougher soldiers with melee attacks, and also allow for new traversal options. In terms of weapons, there's a new pistol that's basically like a pocket rocket launcher, a sawed-off shotgun, and bolt action rifle.

Since the game takes place during World War II, you'll see more archaic versions of the enemies from Wolfenstein: The New Order, which take place in an alternate history 1960s, as well as more of the occult, which were a bigger part of previous Wolfenstein games.

"The idea was that rather than doing traditional DLC for the game in little bits, what if we were just to take all this stuff we were going to do and throw it into one single standalone product that anyone can play?" VP of marketing and Public Relations at Bethesda Pete Hines said. He added that much like Ubisoft found success with Far Cry 3's standalone spin-off, Blood Dragon, Bethesda wanted to release a smaller, cheaper product that would let people who haven't played The New Order try the gameplay at a lower barrier to entry.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is created by The New Order developer MachineGames and will launch on May 5 for $20. It will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC through digital channels only.

yet to complete The New Order (last mission). Machinegames did the right thing by releasing it as an Expansion Pack (that term looks ancient) with low price.
