the usage checker in (dataone.in) wasnt working for past 2 days for me too . try now , it worked for me now..
i'm not sure regardiing ur problem . try a virus scan on xp. the last ( & most boring ) wud be to format and re-install xp.

although my problem ( solved it ) is unrelated to urs , just have a look. i had this a few days back.

-keyboard works fine in bios .
-once xp starts , the mouse works fine.
-i press any key after xp boots , keyboard gets stuck and mouse too!!!
-but xp doesnt hang , i can shut down with the power button (hibernate).

i re-installed xp , no go . thats an understatement . i tried to re-install xp , i cud select which partition to re-install ( ofcourse , i tried repair with no go ) , but once the xp booted and started installing , the same problem , i cudnt even enter the serial number . . i tried my keyboard in my friends house , it was fine and i used his keyboard in my pc , same problem occured .

gave up, called my vendor . he formatted and re-installed xp and everything went fine(he too tried re-installing with no go) . now , everything is back to normal .

You might end up with this as the last option . see wat others say , keep this as the last option .. .
