Windows Installer and Update Issue with Vista

Hi Folks:

I have Windows Vista SP2 Home Basic 32bit. Recently when it applied security updates KB2393802 and KB2556532 my system is behaving abnormally. I have following issues.

1. Windows updater is no longer working. It gives 80004002 error whenever I check for updates (An error occurred while checking for new updates). Actually after these security updates whenever I checked for updates it used to list these two updates again even when they were successfully installed so I have to hide them and then I am getting the said error. My Windows Updater service is up and running fine though.

2. My Windows Installer service is running but whenever I try to install anything that uses this service I get error "windows Installer service could not be accessed". I tried everything that is recommended on Microsoft website including FixIt solutions but no luck. Only one of the solutions I couldn't try because that required starting Windows in Safe Mode which I cannot do for now (my laptop display is not working and I am on external monitor that does not display anything when booted in Safe Mode or Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt. In fact I cannot see anything on monitor until Windows loads).

3. My machine is dual boot with Fedora10. Windows updates also destroyed my grub boot loader. Is there anyway I configure it again inside Vista because for the reason above in #2 I cannot get access to my machine before Windows boots.

Did anyone face these issues and were able to resolve them? Please share your experiences and offer suggestions.

Thanks in advance.
Ramesh

1, 2. Windows uploader not working

soln : Try system restore.

3. Grub not working

soln : you can fix it using guide for Fedora or use Easy BCD

Any reason still on Vista ? You can even try Windows 8 as it is available now.

Thanks Dilip for your suggestions but my problem is I am using external monitor hence cannot see anything until OS boots. I am going to repair my laptop display but it will be in last week of next month. So thought of checking if I could do something without system restore.

I am scrapping windows and going for Linix probably Ubuntu/openSUSE/Fedora so there is no question of buying Win8 :)
