which platform do i select?

i m thinking of Downloading Solaris 10 frm sun.com
it may take a month or two to download though

its 2.5 GB and i m planning to download the CD format and not DVD since i have no DVD burner ...

what i need to know is, there is an option saying "Select Platform" ....

there are 2 options given there
a) SPARC
b) x64/x86

which option sud i select ....??

the SPARC option is for SPARC servers.

the x64/x86 refers to the standard version for PCs, download it.

btw what are SPARC servers?

SPARC servers are servers running on 32 & 64 bit processors.the only difference is that they are RISC (Reduced instruction Set Computing). processors.These are different from the Intels,AMDs we use(they are CISC or
complex instruction set computing).

RISC processors are used for high end applications and that too only for specific applications which demand a lot of processing power and speed.
