As far as my knowledge goes CDMA phones in the US are without any SIM card slot (remember old RIL <karlo duniya muthi mein> :lol:phones) i.e. they are tied to the carrier. So any thought of using DroidX goes out of the window.

We have to just unlock Droid X like iPhones from US. Droid X which they are planning to release in India could be GSM. Don't know whether it will be available only through providers likes Airtel/Vodafone. Lets wait and see....

Desire supports 3G, so it should work with MTNL.

After soo many googling I got information that Droid 2 and Droid X GSM version will be released in countries apart from US. As the name Droid is from Verizon (US), it will be Milestone 2 and Milestone X respectively outside US. Also Android 2.2 Froyo will be available in both phones. They will be lauched in Q4 2010 in Europe and India. First to be released is Milestone 2 and then Milestone X. I think they will be available in the festival season in India (Between Deepavali and X'mas) Nov-Dec. They have to just release the GSM version. It will be available in India through gray market.

I have also found one Droid X (Verizon/US) for sale in India (Mumbai) for 29K. It is unlocked, so can use Reliance connection (1X data, confirmed by the seller).

For me the best policy is to wait till the year end. As you have only 45 days, getting any Android phone with 1Ghz CPU will be the best option. You are right, Desire is the best option; if you don't want to buy from gray market and cannot wait until the year end.

You can also check HTC Desire HD (which is HTC Evo in US). Launched in Europe few days back. It got stunning features and better than Samsung Galaxy
